JOINS LINE-UP
For its first outing, the LA WEEKLY DETOUR FESTIVAL will feature a multimedia and light art exhibition set against the backdrop of the Eli and Edythe Broad Plaza at the Caltrans Building (100 S. Main Street). The dazzling showcase of digital projections, light box/backlight installations, performance painting, and 3-D light sculptures by Los Angeles based artists will be accompanied by live music.
Some of the highlighted artists include:
Kim Koga's (MONA) beautiful neon sculptures, bottles, etc.
Brian Stotesbery: The master of LED light and interactive sculptures including computer circuitboards that he programs to move the lights within the sculptures.
Lilli Muller collaborating with Richard Ankrom on the anti-war piece "I Pledge Alliance”: The American world flag (Richard Ankrom) showing the stars (all conquered territories around the world) pitched on a mount of sculpture bodies (Lilli Muller) glowing in red lights.
Robert Reynolds: "The Spirit Car," a car made with a steel wire frame and whose entire chassis is made of cellophane wrapping paper (including seats and steering wheel and tires).
Photographs by Asya Schween, Rick Mendoza, Ernie Vrela and Raymond Y Newton showcased on two free-standing backlit floor lights.
Additionally, THE FOUNDATION, who beat out 80 other local bands for a chance to perform at the LA WEEKLY DETOUR MUSIC FESTIVAL, have been added to the bill. The Los Angeles duo of Justin Patrick (vocals/guitar) and Bryan Rozof (drums) have been playing together in and around Los Angeles for more than a year prior to winning the September 26 LA WEEKLY DETOUR MUSIC FEST “Battle of the Bands” at the Roxy in Los Angeles.
