WRITERS GUILD FOUNDATION
BENEFIT AT BUSBY’s
FEBRUARY 1st IN LOS ANGELES
LILI HAYDN–singer, songwriter and violinist extraordinaire–is set to perform at a benefit for the Writers Guild Foundation Industry Support Fund Friday, February 1 in Los Angeles at Busby’s (5364 Wilshire Blvd., formerly The Conga Room). The event, titled BandAid, will benefit the Industry Support Fund, which has been set up by writers for non-writers in the entertainment industry and is designed to provide industry workers affected by the WGA strike with emergency assistance for food, housing, medical needs, and other expenses. Cash donations will be taken at the door in lieu of a cover charge; doors are at 6:30pm and LILI’s set time is 7:30PM.
“I'm supporting the writers because they're asking for what's fair and just, and Martin Luther King said ‘the time is always right to do what is right,’” LILI explains. “I think we're at a crossroads in civilization, where normal people asking for basic human rights and fairness are being confronted with great powers that would like to squash them, and we're seeing it in front of our eyes, in Burma, in Pakistan, in Guantanamo and right here in Hollywood where the people whose long solitary hours of discipline and inspiration are the genesis of the biggest industry we have.” LILI adds, “This event is a great opportunity to stand alongside not just the writers, but what they represent in this time in history: human beings asking for justice; and humanity rising to its greatest potential…and it's a chance to rock the house with some songs from my new record!”
LILI returns April 1 with PLACE BETWEEN PLACES, her debut album for Nettwerk Music and third album overall. On PLACE BETWEEN PLACES–produced by HAYDN and Grammy-winning producer-engineer Thom Russo (Johnny Cash, Macy Gray, Audioslave)–she delivers sounds that are inventive and torrid, with compelling lyrics in search of peace and passion in an unsteady world. She shows a new sense of abandonment in her vocals to match the fire and grace of her virtuosic violin playing.
A committed humanitarian and activist, HAYDN also performs regularly for various human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Action Center, and has played private concerts for international gatherings of Nobel laureates. The new album’s “Children of Babylon” has already been adopted by the Global Security Institute to further its message of nuclear nonproliferation.
