KEEP IT FRESH AT THE EDISON
FOR THEIR WEEKLY RESIDENCY
AS THEY LOOK AHEAD TO RETURN APPEARANCES
AT COACHELLA AND THE OPTIMUS ALIVE! FESTIVAL IN PORTUGAL
As the LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE continues to build momentum at their packed weekly residency at the Edison in downtown Los Angeles, 2009 is shaping up to be their most successful year yet.
With no two performances ever the same, the internationally heralded and critically acclaimed Los Angeles-based troupe of visually unique performance artists is invigorating their Wednesday night performances, debuting new design elements every week into the mix. They’re also set for a return performance to the 2009 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA (April 17-19) as well as a return appearance at the Optimus Alive! festival in Portugal (July 10-12). Also keep an eye out for LUCENT DOSSIER who will perform for the second consecutive year at the official GRAMMY® awards after party – The 2009 GRAMMY CelebrationSM – at the Los Angeles Convention Center on February 8. They will also unfurl new charms when they perform at “Lucent L’amour,” an open-air street festival in downtown Los Angeles on February 14 in celebration of Valentine’s Day (more information below).
At the Edison, LUCENT DOSSIER are further blurring the boundaries of fantasy and reality with new apparatuses for aerial acts, swinging over the audience perched on a metal crescent moon. Since the launch of its residency last April, the troupe of “fire dancers, aerial silk performers, belly dancers, contortionists, burlesque girls and daring ‘actors’…some of whom hang from the rafters inside the bar and mingle with the patrons” (Los Angeles Times, 7/14/08) has sought to creatively break down the fourth wall between performer and audiences, transporting all to a new timeless dimension where senses are fully heightened and new possibilities explored. Visitors to this “underworld that spans 10,000 square feet and instantly catapults you back in time, landing you somewhere between the Victorian era and Prohibition,” will find themselves in a hybrid fantasy world where “bygone-era outfits are paired with futuristic makeup designs painted on faces and bodies,” noted the Advocate.com (12/11/08).
Every Wednesday between 9PM – 12 AM at the Edison, LUCENT DOSSIER (which means “a collection of glowing light” in French) performs three-to-four-minute acts every 15 minutes. The fancifully-painted performers appear like other-worldly deities onstage (with costumes all made from recycled materials) before descending into the audience for spontaneous interactions, creating a daring new paradigm between performer and audience, encouraging all to “increase your capacity to love,” which is LUCENT DOSSIER’S motto.
Next up for the traveling troupe that has enchanted audiences at festivals and events across the globe – including Summer Sonic Tokyo, Burning Man, Electric Picnic Ireland, Club Answer S. Korea, Vegoose and Earthdance–is their fourth consecutive appearance at Coachella. Once again, their stage will be constructed from nature-inspired organic and found-matter by Brent “Shrine” Spears and the DoLaB (www.thedolab.com), a radical art collective committed to the expansion of minds and the destruction of conventions. LUCENT DOSSIER has also been invited back to perform—after receiving rave reviews last year–at Optimus Alive!, a three-day eco-friendly music and art extravaganza that will be held on the Passeio Marítimo de Algés in Portugal July 10-12 that has been headlined in the past by Bob Dylan and Rage Against The Machine.
Also to look forward to from LUCENT DOSSIER and the Do Lab is “Lucent L’amour,” a visionary love fest in downtown Los Angeles on February 14 that will feature live vaudeville performances by LUCENT DOSSIER with special guest Mass Ensemble and their 50ft Earth Harp, as well as musical performances on three stages, art shows, vegetarian vendors and a full bar. 2009 will also bring a newly redesigned inter-active website from LUCENT DOSSIER, details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.
