World-renowned avant-garde performance troupe LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE will return to the Palace Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles for a two-night run on Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22. Following a sold-out show July 28 to officially unveil the newly restored Palace Theatre on its 100th birthday, LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE has reached new bounds. The extraordinary event was the first of its kind, stretching the limits of a typical LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE to a magnificent all-night spectacle, transporting the patron to an alternate reality. From the time the theatre doors open to the last vibration from the DJ speakers, LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE promises something you’ve never experienced before.
Artistic director and performerDREAM ROCKWELL shares the group’s appreciation for the overwhelmingly positive response to this new show arrangement. “We are extremely excited to be returning to the Palace Theatre for a two night run, October 21st and 22nd. Our first show in the newly restored theater on July 28th SOLD OUT and then some! Thank you Los Angeles!!! We have received countless emails asking about our return to the Palace stage. We have finally been able to settle down after performances at Burning Man, The Emmy’s and numerous beautiful private affairs so we can prepare our next Palace extravaganza!”
Tickets for the 90-minute interactive performance and after party are on-sale now, ranging from $20 to $135. To purchase tickets and select seats in advance, visit: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/203605. Both shows are on track to sell-out.
Production coordinator DAYNA RIESGO teases that the new shows will include “some new pieces we’re excited to debut as well as keeping the old ones we all love.” She goes on to say, “There will be captivating interactive service stations throughout the majestic theatre for guests to participate in as well as an epic, booty shakin’ after party that goes well into the night so you can get all your wiggles out!”
The Downtown Palace Theatre–located at 630 S. Broadway–serves as a perfect venue for LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE. Built in 1911 as the third Los Angeles home of the Orpheum Vaudeville circuit, it is the oldest remaining Orpheum theatre in the country. Every major vaudeville star on the Orpheum circuit performed in this theatre.
In celebration of the Palace Theater’s centennial, the Delijani Family has worked to restore the venue to revive its timeless essence. The intimate scale of the Palace Theatre in concert with its elegant French details compares to a 17th-century European opera house. With garland-draped columns, a color scheme of pale pastels, wall murals depicting pastoral scenes, and ceiling murals of whimsical girls, this 1911 theatre offers an unusually charming and graceful setting.
Critical praise from LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE’s July 28 show:
“…a stunning spectacle of vaudeville-style magic that included live music, stilt walking, fire dancing, aerial contortion and other goosebump-inducing displays of the group’s darkly giddy aesthetic.”
–Katie Bain, HUFFINGTON POST, 7/29/11
“There is no one star in this production. Everyone is brilliant, and everyone is inspired and genuinely having a blast. The performers act as one living breathing organism. There is something authentic and almost palpable in the air plus there is fire, aerial acrobatics, music, and more. And I would continue to sing praises of this wonderfully interactive show but I feel it my responsibility to leave you something mysterious to experience for yourself, and while I’ve already given my recommendation, here it is again. Just go.”
–Dustin Downing, CHINASHOPMAG.COM, 8/1/11
“As you enter the theatre, you are overwhelmed by the glory of yesteryear. Grand curtains, golden accents, beautifully painted scenes on the ceilings above, and rich crimson velvet seats envelope you. Live art and cirque performers roam the passageways as the tribal thumping of the orchestra sets the tone for the mysterious and powerful show that follows. This show is filled with fire dancers, aerialists, and acrobatic performers that appear on the stage and make their way through the room further enveloping you as they weave a visual tapestry to the sometimes rhythmic and sometimes fevered strains of the electro-dub live orchestra.”
–Peter Zakhary, LAIST.COM, 7/27/11
“I suppose I can try to describe what the Lucent Dossier Experience is in a nutshell: It’s like Cirque Du Soleil, but it’s edgier. It’s like a musical, but it’s kind of demented. They have fire, and aerialists, and circus freaks, and dubstep. Oh yeah, live dubstep…It’s not just a show, but a whole experience…The Lucent Dossier Experience is a bit of a journey, a trip into the realm of the bizarre, allowing you to explore the dark recesses of your mind as you watch things that scared you as a child come alive on stage. You know, creepy carnival music, life-sized dolls moving in twitches, snarling clowns, that sort of stuff…The LDE crew does a fantastic job of mixing in beautiful ballads with the jarring, the lithe aerial acrobats with the scary double-jointed crab dancing, the beautiful movement of flow/fire arts against aggressive per beat hip hop hits of the dancers. And when it’s all over and you’ve gotten through saying, ‘Holy crap. That’s crazy!’ for the 50th time, you’re reminded that this show is put on by people too… You could really feel the amount of love, thought, and care that went into the whole production, and with the impossibly broad range of thoughts, memories, and emotions that this show spurred in my brain, satisfaction was only equal to gratitude.”
