LUCHA VaVOOM
SET FOR THIS WEEKEND’S
BAMBOOZLE FESTIVAL IN NEW JERSEY
SIMULTANEOUS CINCO DE MAYO PERFORMANCES HAPPENING
AT LOS ANGELES’ MAYAN THEATER AND CHICAGO’S PARK WEST
THURSDAY, MAY 5
LUCHA VaVOOM, the mind-blowing and acclaimed Mexican masked wrestling/burlesque/comedy ensemble, are set for three exciting upcoming events, including their first-ever festival appearance taking place this weekend at The Bamboozle music festival in New Jersey, as well as “CINCO DE MAYO SPECTACULAR” shows May 5 in Los Angeles and Chicago.
For their Friday, April 29 appearance at The Bamboozle, LUCHA VaVOOM will perform throughout the day on the “Saints and Sinners” stage, bringing their LI’L CHICKEN, EL BOMBERO, MATT CLASSIC, AEROFORM TAG TEAM EXTREME and THE NOTORIOUS DIRTY SANCHEZ wrestlers to entertain crowds between music sets for 15 minutes every hour. “It’s a great opportunity for us,” says LUCHA co-founder and lead burlesque star RITA D’ALBERT, “to perform in front of music fans who wouldn’t normally get to see us, and show them that we rock harder than most bands!”
For the “CINCO DE MAYO SPECTACULAR” shows–set for Thursday, May 5 in both Los Angeles at the Mayan Theater (where they performed two sold-out shows in February) and Chicago at the Park West–LUCHA VaVOOM are set to bring their no-holds-barred sexo y violencia back to their fans. And when LUCHA VaVOOM drops the word “spectacular,” you can rest assured that they’ll amp things up to new levels of insanity at these must-be-seen-to-be-believed shows in celebration of the Mexican holiday.
LUCHA VaVOOM’s CINCO DE MAYO shows are non-stop events that will be comprised of three action-packed wrestling matches and four lusty burlesque ladies (including Carolina Cerisola and Kitten DeVille, two of the most well-known burlesque dancers in the world sharing the same stage for the first time ever), all in one intermission-free experience. Attendees can also look forward to the following: strolling mariachis, a donkey photo booth, Aztec and folklorico dancers, a lowrider parade (in Los Angeles), giant Zumba dance (in Chicago), tamales, and–as is traditional with the holiday–lots of tequila courtesy of their friends at El Jimador.
Founded in Los Angeles in 2003 by Rita D’Albert and Liz Fairbairn, Lucha VaVOOM is good vs. evil played out in quick, exhibition-style, one-fall Lucha Libre matches for maximum enjoyment and action. The Los Angeles Times said, “Far-out flamboyance always prevails at Lucha VaVOOM, a spectacle of Mexican freestyle wrestling with an L.A. twist (7/09/06).”
Arguably more rock than rock and more punk than punk, Lucha VaVOOM has created a Los Angeles tradition: from the low-rider car parade escorting the performers as the crowd enters the iconic Mayan Theater, to the local luminaries they attract (Drew Carey and Jack Black have sat in), to Burlesque (which was revived right here in Los Angeles), to Lucha Libre, where masked heroic wrestlers, in character-driven style, flip, fly and amaze. It all comes together to make one fun, surreal, glam-bam spectacle of raucous entertainment. You could say it’s a wrestling show for people that don’t like wrestling (and those that do).
At Lucha VaVOOM, they like a little sexo with their violencia. In between matches, the finest handpicked burlesque acts from around the world wow the crowds with their unique striptease skills, including raucous aerial acts, pogo-stick peelers and hula-hoop hotties.
