OF ‘THOSE THINGS’
In anticipation of the release of his second album Those Things (Salted Music) on March 20, MIGUEL MIGS, the west coast’s premier producer who established the sound of house music that defines the region, has announced he will set off on an exclusive DJ tour in support of his new effort. On this trek, which touches down in many major markets in the U.S. and Canada, MIGS will DJ selections from the album and will be joined by Lisa Shaw and Tim Fuller who sing on it. Marques Wyatt and Julius Papp will also appear on a few dates as support DJs.
The Those Things tour kicks off in Miami during the Winter Music Conference at Shine, Friday, March 23. Throughout the spring, MIGS, along with Shaw on all dates and Fuller on most, will take the sensual sonic landscapes of Those Things to clubs in such markets as Portland, Chicago, Denver, and Minneapolis, wrapping at This is London in Toronto on July 13. In addition, there is a planned date across the pond in London at Plan B on April 21.
“Those Things represents an open-minded spectrum that can have multi-meaning and definition,” states the San Francisco-based producer about his follow-up to his 2002 debut Colorful You (Astralwerks/Naked Music). “It’s electronic music inspired by old soul, funk, reggae and hip-hop incorporating lots of live elements.” These elements include the trumpet, congas, saxophone, guitar, bass and, of course, a diverse array of guest vocalists throughout including LT (Sweetback), Sadat X from Brand Nubian, Fred Ross from Sly and the Family Stone and Junior Reid. Lisa Shaw contributes to songs “Make Things Happen,” “Side To Side” and the title track. Tim Fuller can be heard on “Can’t Get Through,” “Body Never Lies” and “Sometime.”
