OUT NOW ON ULTRA MUSIC

Summer is here and it’s time to head south to the shores of Brazil with “Rio,” the sunny, Latin-inspired production from NETSKY featuring Digital Farm Animals. Out now on Ultra Music, “Rio” with its brass-accented beats and smooth lyrics–“Wherever she goes, I go, we roll, we go, flying over cities down to Rio… Nothing is forever but I’m down for the minute so just chill”–marks a slightly different sound from the Belgian superstar producer known for his unique brand of drum and bass, electro and pop.
For the “Rio” video, which made its premiere yesterday (July 6) via U.K. fashion tastemaker magazine Wonderland, NETSKY teamed with animation collective Powster (www.powster.com). The cartoon style clip features the artist and Digital Farm Animals as his signature pig on an adventure through the beaches and nightclubs of Brazil’s Rio.

Since debuting “Rio” with U.K. influencer DJ Annie Mac on her BBC Radio 1 show in June, the song has racked up over 350,000 plays on NETSKY’s SoundCloud. This past weekend, NETSKY performed at Wireless festival in the U.K. where he was joined by special guest Emelie Sande. Yesterday (July 6), in celebration of the release of “Rio,” NETSKY performed a set for DJ MAG’s live stream which has been archived here: http://www.djmag.com/node/57097.
“Rio” in the press:
“’Rio’ features a slower tempo than what we’re used to hearing from Netsky, and within a few seconds of listening we can tell it’s something deeper than what we are used to hearing. Partnering with Digital Farm Animals on vocals, there’s a softness that emulates the carefree ideology that the vocal brings through. That vocal is pretty simple, yet totally entrancing.”
— Steph Evans of Earmilk (6/12/15),
“Best filed under ‘hands-up summer banger’: Netsky – Rio features slick lyrics from Digital Farm Animals, kicks off on a cool halftime beat before dropping into a horn-wrapping, piano-slapping masterclass in feel good vibes.”
— UKF (6/12/15)
“This new latin-inspired smash from @netskymusic is perfect for this Summery weather, today in London.”
— @wonderlandmag (6/18/15)
“This one is very unique, combining Brazilian horns and smooth vocals from Digital Farm Animals to create a tune that could have come straight out of Rio. It starts out with mellow chords that develop into the Brazilian theme with the build up, and the drop is nothing short of fantastic with a classic DnB beat making the horns so much easier to dance to. This is the exact song that you’d want to play on those energetic summer Saturday nights, the ones that are filled with good vibes and good times – just like the vibe that Rio carries.”
– Nick Grindrod, EDM Assassin (6/15/15)
“Belgian bass superstar is taking summer vibes to a whole new level with this new drum & bass jam!”
–K Rachel Mills, Bass Is My Boyfriend (6/19/15)
“Nestky’s latest jam ‘Rio’ is pure bliss. The track’s seamless combination of heart-pumping horns and simplistic summery lyrics make for one unusual and contemporary DnB/Tropical House hybrid. ‘Rio’ has the structure and formatting that is distinctly Netsky. but his pairing up with funky fresh London-based up-and-comer Digital Farm Animals, makes it appealing to an audience far beyond his usual, wildly dancing, DnB party animals. Having been almost an entire year since the Belgium debuted his fancy collaboration with Beth Ditto, ‘Running Low,’ Netsky’s ‘Rio’ is proof of his permanent game changer status within the DnB community.”
–Rebecca Krauss, The Bass Collective (6/15/15)
“’Rio’ is much chiller in tempo than we’re used to from Netsky, but his skill for bringing together genre-spanning sounds into one beautiful composition still shines… Netsky was in no rush on this track. ‘Rio’ takes it’s time getting to the places it needs to go. It is however, not without that uplifting and down-right groovy drum and bass-y goodness fans eagerly await. Digital Farm Animals’ vocals really encapsulate that easygoing and wistful ambulation that the main groove lays down.”
– Janessa Demeule, Only The Beat (6/24/15)
Look for “Rio” to appear on NETSKY’s new artist album to be released later this year.
