Look for singer/songwriter musician PJ OLSSON to be among the first CBS Records artists to have a song highlighted in a prime-time series on the CBS Television Network when his song “She Says To Fly” is featured in CBS’s popular prime-time drama “Ghost Whisperer,” Friday, March 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). The track is from OLSSON’s THE IRONWOOD SESSIONS EP, which is now available at the iTunes music store.
Nearly three minutes of the lush, soaring “She Says To Fly” will be utilized at a pivotal point in the “Ghost Whisperer” episode when, Melinda, a recent foster parent, helps a troubled teen find happiness. “Ghost Whisperer” stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, David Conrad and Camryn Manheim and is broadcast Fridays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
“She Says To Fly”–which Olsson says recounts a personal voyage of discovery, finding inspiration and hope to wash away bleakness–isn’t his first song to be used on a CBS show; his "It's Only Memories" was recently heard on the Tuesday, March 20 episode of “NCIS.”
Both “She Says To Fly” and “It’s Only Memories” will appear on THE IRONWOOD SESSIONS EP, which features a mature artist at the peak of his abilities as a writer, arranger and performer and shows him to be very much in touch with where he is in his life. THE IRONWOOD SESSIONS is rounded out with “Hold My Light,” “Rain Song” and “Send Me a Message.”
“This music is very reflective of me,” he says. “Sometimes I feel as if I’ve been going from boyhood to manhood–-even though I’m not a teenager or anything. The last couple of years with my children and my wife, moving back to Michigan and being in a midwestern philosophy compared to living in Hollywood gave me a very natural centering.”
OLSSON has seen life from the other side of the business, with a decade of experience in both major-label and independent situations. He released three albums–1998’s P.J. OLSSON, 1999’s WORDS FOR LIVING and 2005’s BEAUTIFULLY INSANE–acclaimed both for their bold 21st century troubadour combinations of traditional instruments and innovatively utilized electronics and his often-revealing lyrics. He also saw success via an alternative method when his carefree ode “The Whistle Song” (which did, indeed, feature him whistling) was used in a nationwide 2004 Starburst candy commercial.
