NO REST FOR THE WICKED: For a band that's trying to take some time off, GREEN DAY are keeping pretty busy. The band used the press conference backstage at this year's MTV Video Music Awards on September 10–where they took home the award for "Best Alternative Video" for the Mark Kohr-directed "Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance)" video from their platinum NIMROD album–to officially announce that they've started to work on their own B-movie horror film. After briefly celebrating the fact that their "Susan Lucci curse" has finally disappeared (they had been nominated for 14 MTV Video Music Awards before finally winning one this year), they proceeded to give the first few details of this new endeavor. Seems that GREEN DAY—BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG (guitars, vocals), MIKE DIRNT (bass) and TRE COOL (drums)–are currently collaborating with writers to put together a script for a movie that they will personally star in, write and perform all the music and produce the soundtrack album. While a title, director or movie production company has not been chosen at press time, the band are hoping to start shooting after the new year and have it released to theatres at some point in 1999. Shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards–two days later to be exact–BILLIE JOE and his wife Adrienne became the proud parents of a healthy baby boy. Jakob Danger Armstrong was born on September 12 in a Berkeley, CA hospital, weighing in at 8 lb., 15 oz. This is their second child (they also have a three-year-old boy named Joey). Meanwhile, the band have also released "Nice Guys Finish Last" as the latest track to radio from their platinum NIMROD album. It's already getting lots of airplay on alternative radio stations around the U.S., including KROQ in Los Angeles. Details of a video for the track are currently developing. Next up for the band: a few more weeks of much-deserved time off before heading overseas to South America for a few week's worth of tour dates.
