‘HOOKED ON YOU’ VIA KOSMICA MUSIC AUGUST 7
Since 2004, Nottingham, U.K. natives Jim Baron (one half of the founding members of Crazy P) and Bob Sadler (whose many aliases include Fug, Waxploitation and Fram) have been making music to dazzle dance floors via their collaboration, SECRET STEALTH. On August 7, 2007, Kosmica Music will release their U.S. debut album HOOKED ON YOU.
The songs that appear on Hooked On You derive from SECRET STEALTH’s critically acclaimed U.K. releases Ssshhh! and Mince & Onions. The former album, released in 2005, made iDJ’s album of the month and their Top 10 Albums of 2005. “Dream of You,” the lead single, was playlisted on BBC Radio London for three months.
SECRET STEALTH followed in March 2007 with the wholesome Mince & Onions. Kicking off with what sounds like a take on the Ohio Players’ “Love Rollercoaster,” “Drive Me Crazy” is an infectious head-nodding groove featuring the convincingly emotional vocals of Holly Backler. “High Riser” is a deceptive, driving, disco dream that should keep dance floors busy for awhile. Elsewhere, a number of different genres are touched on: “Wacky Backy” represents Stealth’s first foray into drum & bass, while “Just Say Yes” is an exploration into the realms of cosmic disco currently inhabited by artists like Lindstrom and Prins Thomas. In the U.K. media, Mince & Onions garnered rave reviews:
“An album as quirky and erratic as it is smooth and tuneful. Superb.” 8/8
— Innes Weir, M8 Magazine
“Cool, smooth lounge vibes… Recalls the early nineties pop grandeur of the Brand New Heavies & N’Dea Davenport”
–Ralph Moore, Mixmag
“tasty stuff – packed with deep house and proto-disco” 4/5
–Paul Clarke, DJ Magazine
“an aural love-in of cosmic proportions” 5/5
–Dave Jenkins, iDJ Magazine
“infectious cosmic disco well worth revisiting”
— Wyl Menmuir, fly.co.uk
“Sample spotters wet dream!! Taking on a variety of genres but always funky”
— Lewis Dene, Update Magazine
“Cinematic electro-funk arrangements with lush organic vibes aplenty…”.
–Alex Stevenson, One Week To Live
“devastatingly dangerous dancefloor action"
–Blair Cartright, Notion Magazine
