PAPA ROACH
TO LAUNCH MAJOR HEADLINING U.S. TOUR FEBRUARY 17 IN SEATTLE
AS ‘GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER’ CD NEARS GOLD STATUS,
“SCARS” SINGLE BREAKS THROUGH AT TOP 40 RADIO
AND VIDEO IS ADDED TO FUSE AND MTV2
As their GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER (Geffen) CD closes in on gold certification with sales exceeding 400,000 in the U.S., PAPA ROACH is set to kick off a major headlining U.S. tour February 17 in Seattle. Just before the launch of the tour with support acts Skindred and The F-Ups, the band will perform a special show in Mexico City with Marilyn Manson on February 9.
The excitement surrounding PAPA ROACH continues to build as their current single “Scars” is #2 at Modern Rock radio and was notably the #3 Most Added track at Top 40 radio behind Mariah Carey and Nelly. The band teamed with Motion Theory to create a compelling video for the poignant song–about relationships and alcohol abuse–which has been added to MTV2 and FUSE. Fans can also check out the video online at Launch/Yahoo! (http://launch.yahoo.com/) beginning Monday, February 7.
“Scars” follows the success of the album’s first single “Getting Away With Murder,” which held the #1 slot at Active Rock for 10 weeks and reached #4 at Modern Rock. GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER debuted at #17 on theBillboard Top 200 album chart. Overall, PAPA ROACH has already sold nearly 4 million records since forming in 1993.
In other news, PAPA ROACH–JACOBY SHADDIX (lead vocals), JERRY HORTON (guitar), DAVE BUCKNER (drums), TOBIN ESPERANCE (bass)–have just returned from five performances at U.S. military bases in South Korea. Before leaving for this trip, SHADDIX talked to MTV News about why the band decided to do these free shows for the troops. “I’ve got a beef with the administration, not our soldiers. Those people over there are just doing their job. They joined the Army because it’s a way to get a college education.” He continued, “My father is a Vietnam vet, and when a lot of those soldiers came home, people were calling them baby killers and I saw how that affected my father. He was over there fighting a war he didn’t believe in, but he came home and people shunned him and we just can’t treat people like that. I’ve got friends in the military, and do I have something against them? Not at all,” he continued. “I know what it’s like to be so far from home, I know what that disconnection is like and I want our music to be a little taste of home for the troops” (December 8, 2004).
Meanwhile, critical acclaim for GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER continues to build. Here’s a sample:
“…Shaddix funnels a newfound sensitivity into gashing, coarsely melodic emo-metal that aches as much as it breaks.”
–Carly Carioli, Blender, October 2004
“…Papa Roach have hung in there by turning out catchy hard rock that’s as muscular as vintage Motorhead.”
–Christian Hoard, Rolling Stone, September 16, 2004
“…thrashing hard rock that always pays attention to melody.”
–Jon Pareles, New York Times, September 06, 2004
“…these onetime Grammy nominees reliably deliver bouncy hard rock keyed to the angry charisma of frontman Jacoby Shaddix.”
–Sean Richardson, Entertainment Weekly, September 3, 2004
“Now a decade into their career, the Roach sound like experienced veterans…Shaddix howls through the title track with controlled fury…guitarist Jerry Horton tricks out ‘Stop Looking’ with a painter’s palette of tones and textures.”
–Mikael Wood, Revolver, October 2004
