LOS ANGELES INDIE RECORD LABEL
POP CAUTIOUS RECORDS
ANNOUNCES DEBUT RELEASE
3-SONG ARTIST SAMPLER
AVAILABLE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10
Los Angeles-based indie record label POP CAUTIOUS RECORDS has announced its debut release, a 3-song EP titled SAMPLER featuring one track from each artist on the label, will be available on iTunes and all other digital retailers, select record stores and at www.shop.popcautious.com beginning Tuesday, February 10.
POP CAUTIOUS RECORDS produces, promotes and releases quality indie music; various flavors of indie-folk as it strives to establish a unique and identifiable culture in the Los Angeles music scene. There are presently three acts signed to the label–Seneca and the River, Pop Cautious and Luke Strand–with more signings to be announced soon.
Musician, producer, composer Tyler Porterfield, also known as Pop Cautious, formed the label in order to establish a creative, collaborative environment and ideal platform to better serve himself and his musician friends. All three acts perform music as the artistic collective Seneca and the River, in addition to having their individual solo projects. SAMPLER was also a communal effort, self-produced by the bandmates in their own living rooms.
“The idea of starting a record label had been floating around in my head for awhile,” Tyler shares. “After I moved to Los Angeles and had a chance to intern for both indie and major labels, I developed a better understanding of how all of this works. My main focus has always been writing, recording and performing music as an artist, but once I had a chance to start working and collaborating with different artists in LA I realized there is a niche group of like-minded and talented people here and the idea of a label could very well become a reality.”
Seneca and the River—Seneca Pettee (Vocals/Guitar), Tyler Porterfield (Mandolin/Vocals), Luke Strand (Trumpet) and Kaeleigh Hamel-Curd (Drums)–is an indie folk-rock band that formed during the summer of 2013 in Los Angeles. Initially the band came together for an Artist Development Competition and included a dozen of Seneca’s friends and co-workers. In 2013 Music Connection named the group one of their “Top 100 Live Unsigned Artists & Bands,” and over the past year and a half, Seneca and the River’s sound has developed and become uniquely identifiable. The group just released a new music video for their current single “Lately;” check it out here. “Lately” will appear exclusively on the label’s sampler, and the group will release their debut EP–produced by Eric Corne at Seahorse Sound Studios–on Tuesday, February 24.
Pop Cautious hails from Houston, TX and fine-tuned his sound gigging in Texas while studying music theory at the University of Texas. In 2010, he decided to move to Los Angeles for a film school program, and shortly thereafter joined Seneca and the River as mandolin player. His versatile background in rock, jazz, experimental, classical, singer/songwriter, and more, lend him the valuable tools necessary to craft his music according to emotion and feel. His solo track “Willow” will be released as a single this Tuesday, February 3 and also appear on the sampler; listen here. Grammy award-winning saxophonist and former contributing member of The Mars Volta Adrián Terrazas-González lends his sax skills to “Willow,” which was mixed by producer/engineer Mikael Reid (Ben Harper).
Northern California singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Luke Strand is contributing his song “Unspoken” to the upcoming label release. Having created music since early childhood, Luke now lives in Los Angeles and continues to write, produce, and play both original and covered material, and also performs trumpet as part of Seneca and the River.
“I’ve kind of allowed Pop Cautious Records to grow as organically as possible,” says Tyler. “I’m grateful for the the artists that I am working with as they have supported this dream of mine as it all is beginning to really take shape.”
