ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND:
‘HITTIN’ THE NOTE’ AND HITTIN’ THE ROAD
The ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND recently finished their March Madness run of 13 sold-out shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre where they performed over 50 different songs, including Allman Brothers Band classics, cuts from their latest album HITTIN’ THE NOTE (out now on Peach Records via Sanctuary Records), and the band’s live debut of Derek & The Dominos’ “Layla,” plus a few other select covers. After a well-deserved break, the band will return to the road for three months, beginning with a June 14 performance at the sold-out Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee.
Hittin’ The Note is the first album of new material from the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND–GREGG ALLMAN, BUTCH TRUCKS, JAIMOE, WARREN HAYNES, MARC QUINONES, DEREK TRUCKS and OTEIL BURBRIDGE–in nine years and has been widely acclaimed in the media, with many writers agreeing with ALLMAN’s claim that it’s the “best album we’ve made since Eat A Peach.” (See attached quote sheet.) The album entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart at #36, while the first single “Firing Line” is Top 20 at AAA radio and Top 10 on Heritage Rock.
For the first time in their career, the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND took complete control of the recording process. It was produced and mixed by HAYNES and Michael Barbiero, with five tracks written by ALLMAN and HAYNES, as well as a classic ALLMAN BROTHERS trademark, an extended instrumental penned by HAYNES and BURBRIDGE. And unlike other albums, the BROTHERS recorded the 11 songs (there are two covers) in less than a month. “Everything went so good,” ALLMAN recently told Dan Aquilante of the New York Post. “There were no hassles. We didn’t even take breaks. I think we stopped to go to the bathroom once and I think we had lunch once. We didn’t plan to do it this way, we were just so deep into it.”
Now the BROTHERS are getting back on the road where they belong. The band will criss-cross the U.S. doing 40 shows, wrapping it all up in late September. Other festival gigs include the Muskegon Summer Celebration, We Fest, Common Ground Music Festival and Gathering of the Vibes (see below for full tour itinerary).
