THE CULT
“RETURN TO WILD” NOW ON TAP FOR EUROPE AND CANADA;
CONFIRM PERFORMANCE ON “JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE”
MONDAY, MAY 1
Nearly three months ago, THE CULT announced the end of their hiatus with a tour called “Return To Wild.” Frontman IAN ASTBURY was clear in his sentiments when he said, “We never had fans, we have addicts, you either need it or you don’t. You either get it, or you won’t. There is nothing casual about The Cult, we attract pure votaries.”
These “votaries” turned in full force for the first leg of the dark British band’s “Return To Wild” American tour, which took them to the intimate venues they wanted to play. “We need to reconnect with our people, our tribe,” said guitarist BILLY DUFFY. “We need to be among them.”
And they were. The Austin American Statesman captured the spirit by noting that the band “…easily converted any casual listeners into spellbound servants…the crowd popped like pistons” for their “vintage alternative rock and metallic blues swagger…” (3/14/06). The 19 shows sold out, with the word-of-mouth creating a whole new demand for the iconic rockers who, according to a preview in the New York Times, “…presaged the mix of hard rock and hip-swiveling goth posturing that is popular in today's modern rock…” (3/24/06). All of the shows are available via Instant Live (www.instantlive.com).
In mid-May, THE CULT head to Canada for a seven-city tour (with openers Controller Controller) before journeying overseas where they will visit seven European countries in June and July, encompassing headlining shows and key festival appearances in Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Holland, Serbia, Hungary and Greece. In the midst of these dates, the band will take time to perform at the 91-X Fest, the annual festival held by the San Diego modern rock station.
