RECEIVE GRAMMY NOMINATION FOR “INSTRUMENTAL ILLNESS,” FEATURED ON BOTH THE ‘HITTIN’ THE NOTE’ ALBUM AND GOLD-CERTIFIED DVD ‘LIVE AT THE BEACON THEATRE’
As the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND set their sights on 2004–with a return to the Beacon Theatre in New York City for the 15th year in a row for their “March Madness” string of shows–they’re ending 2003 on a high note. Their critically acclaimed HITTIN’ THE NOTE album (Peach/Sanctuary Records) has generated a Grammy nomination for “Best Rock Instrumental Performance” for the 12-minute tour de force “Instrumental Illness,” while their DVD “Live At The Beacon Theatre”–which also includes “Instrumental Illness”–has been certified gold.
“We’re thrilled and honored that this song was not only embraced by fans of the Allman Brothers Band, but also that it has been recognized by the Grammy folks,” says ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND guitarist WARREN HAYNES, who co-produced HITTIN’ THE NOTE. The group won in the same category for the 1995 version of “Jessica” (from 2nd Set–An Evening With The Allman Brothers Band).
“Instrumental Illness” has been cited as a highlight of HITTN’ THE NOTE, their first album of new material in nine years. In his Philadelphia Inquirer album review (3/23/03), Tom Moon said the song “features episodes of simmering tension culminating in dramatic peaks that can teach the jam kids a thing or two about pacing.” In Rolling Stone (3/13/03), Parke Puterbaugh said the song “lets the guitarists riff, climb and, well, hit the note for another dozen minutes.”
