ART GARFUNKEL
CONTINUES SUCCESSFUL U.S. TOUR
AND LENDS VOICE TO PBS PROGRAM “ARTHUR”;
CONCERT DATES ADDED FOR `99
Singer/poet/actor ART GARFUNKEL is continuing to make `98–his 25th year as a solo artist–one of his busiest. The Grammy Award-winning singer has garnered critical acclaim for recent live performances across the U.S. and Europe and just returned from Japan after a week’s worth of concerts there. Next up: the versatile artist is lending his voice to PBS’ animated program “Arthur,” which is the #1 preschool program on television and the #1 kids show on PBS.
The season premiere of PBS’ Emmy Award-winning animated show “Arthur” launches November 16. The show has created an animated alter ego for GARFUNKEL with an uncanny physical similarity. GARFUNKEL also performs a song in the season debut, “The Ballad of Buster Baxter,” which will be included on the forthcoming soundtrack CD as well.
GARFUNKEL’s live performances include hits from the Simon & Garfunkel days including “Cecilia,” “The Sound of Silence” “Scarborough Fair,” “Mrs. Robinson” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” as well as GARFUNKEL solo numbers and new songs. The Ottawa Citizen said (10/19/98) “…he still sings, and even looks, like an ageless choirboy,” and “If there was any doubt the Garfunkel voice has withstood the rigours of the decades, he dispelled them with his flawless rendition of `Bridge Over Troubled Water’…He made no attempt to shrink from the high notes.” The Muskeegon Chronicle (Michigan) said (8/4/98) his performance “shone with the brilliance of a thousand diamonds” and the Kansas City Star said (8/22/98) “The singer’s voice still has the crystalline of the quality of his youthful tenor…His appearance was youthful as well, right down to the denim shirt and the well-worn jeans.”
GARFUNKEL’s latest recordings include the Grammy-nominated SONGS FROM A PARENT TO A CHILD and the live CD ACROSS AMERICA, both released in `97. Plans for a new CD are in the beginning stages.
