PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED MUSIC FROM INXS DUE OUT
JUNE 4 IN THE MIDST OF THE GROUP’S
FIRST U.S. TOUR SINCE 1997;
RHINO/ATLANTIC TO ISSUE THE DEFINITIVE ‘THE BEST OF INXS‘ ALONG WITH REISSUES
OF THE GROUP’S PLATINUM ALBUMS
‘KICK,’ ‘X’ AND ‘WELCOME TO WHEREVER YOU ARE’
“Michael’s greatest wish was that we would ‘matter’ as a band, that our music would leave a mark and mean something. This collection of songs reflects the many moods and diversity that made up the INXS sound throughout our career.”–Kirk Pengilly (liner notes from THE BEST OF INXS)
“Each of the songs have memories for me which are as potent today as they were yesterday. I was fortunate to be able to write and co-write with Michael many of the songs on this compilation.”–Andrew Farriss (liner notes from THE BEST OF INXS)
INXS fans in the U.S. and Canada will not only have the chance to see the band live this spring–for the first time since 1997, when the group’s tour kicks off May 30 in California–but they’ll also get the opportunity to hear previously unreleased music from the group. On June 4, Rhino/Atlantic will release the definitive INXS greatest hits collection THE BEST OF INXS as well as expanded and remastered reissues of three classic platinum INXS albums–KICK, X and WELCOME TO WHEREVER YOU ARE–all of which have bonus material.The 21-track THE BEST OF INXS features seven Top Ten Hits: “Need You Tonight” (#1), “Devil Inside” (#2), “New Sensation” (#3), “What You Need” (#5), “Never Tear Us Apart” (#7), “Disappear” (#8) and “Suicide Blonde” (#9); along with two previously unreleased songs (outtakes from earlier INXS albums: “Salvation Jane” from 1990’s X and “Tight” from 1992’s WELCOME TO WHEREVER YOU ARE). Also included in the packaging for THE BEST OF INXS are first-hand accounts of the band’s career from the guys themselves: Kirk Pengilly (guitar, saxophone), Garry Beers (bass), Tim Farriss (guitar), Andrew Farriss (keyboard, guitar) and Jon Farriss (drums). The complete track listing is as follows: “Need You Tonight,” “What You Need,” “By My Side,” “Taste It,” “New Sensation,” “The One Thing,” “Disappear,” “Never Tear Us,” “Original Sin,” “Mystify,” “This Time,” “Suicide Blonde,” “Beautiful Girl,” “The Gift,” “Listen Like Thieves,” “Devil Inside,” “Bitter Tears,” “Not Enough Time,” “Salvation Jane,” “Tight” and “Don’t Change.”
1987’s KICK (#3 on Billboard’s Album Chart and six-times platinum in the U.S.) features the previously unreleased album outtake “Jesus Was A Man”; “Move On,” an INXS B-side that never was released on an album; and demo versions of “Mystify” and the unissued “The Trap.” The complete track listing is as follows: “Guns In The Sky,” “New Sensation,” “Devil Inside,” “Need You Tonight,” “Mediate,” “The Loved One,” “Wild Life,” “Never Tear Us Apart,” “Mystify,” “Kick,” “Calling All Nations,” “Tiny Daggers,” “Move On,” “Jesus Was A Man,” “Mystify” (Chicago Demo) and “The Trap” (Demo).
1990’s X (#5 on Billboard’s Album Chart, which sold more than two million copies in the U.S.) is highlighted with four previously unissued songs: “Waiting To Be Free,” the demo version of “Salvation Jane” (also heard on the BEST OF INXS), “Who Pays The Price” and “Dark Of Night.” In addition, the album features “Deepest Red,” a b-side which never appeared on an INXS album. INXS have sold more than 30 million records worldwide, played to crowds as large as 100,000 and garnered awards and distinctions in various mediums (including seven American MTV Awards and multiple Grammy nominations). The group’s 1987 album KICK went on to sell more than 10 million copies worldwide and featured INXS‘ first U.S. number one single “Need You Tonight” along with an unprecedented three Top Five singles from the same album (“Devil Inside” #5, “New Sensation” #3), a feat never equaled by an Australian act. This led to the eventual distinction of six consecutive U.S. Top Ten singles.
