The first-ever RADIO REBELLION TOUR® 2006 Presented by Hurley, Smartpunk.com, Nike 6.0, Fuel TV and Hot Topic is set to kick off October 6 in Nashville.
Showcasing cutting-edge artists who’ve built a massive grassroots fanbase without the help of commercial radio, the RADIO REBELLION TOUR® signifies the shift in how today’s youth discovers and identifies new music and lifestyle trends through the media and the Internet. The inaugural eight-week trek will visit 45 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada between October 6 and December 2. Stay tuned for the fall 2006 itinerary to be announced soon.
Tickets will first be available via the tour’s Internet pre-sale beginning nationwide on August 15 at 9:00AM PST via www.musictoday.com. In addition, the RADIO REBELLION TOUR® CD sampler will be distributed at Hot Topic stores nationwide as well as on the remaining Vans Warped Tour ’06 dates.
“The idea behind Radio Rebellion is simple. We created a tour that showcases artists who’ve achieved some solid commercial success without the traditional drivers of commercial radio,” says Graham Day, founder of Smartpunk.com and tour partner/sponsor. “Some of the Radio Rebellion artists have now sold a few hundred thousand records without having a single spin on commercial radio. We’ve witnessed first-hand the power of this new breed of artist as well as their tight connection with their very active fan-base and now we’re offering these bands that fans want to see in an intimate and ideal environment.”
Norma Jean will headline the tour, which also includes Between The Buried and Me, Fear Before the March of Flames, Misery Signals and revolving openers The Fully Down and The Confession.
Hailing from Atlanta, Norma Jean have established themselves as one of the most adventurous young bands in metal today with their 2002 Solid State Records debut, Bless The Martyr And Kiss The Child. 2005’s follow-up album O’ God The Aftermath took the quintet to the next level, earning critical acclaim and selling over 100,000 copies on the indie Solid State Records. Currently performing all summer long on Ozzfest’s second stage, the band is gearing up for the release of their new album Redeemer–produced by industry icon Ross Robinson (At The Drive In, Slipknot, Deftones, From First To Last)–due out September 12.
“The Radio Rebellion Tour is representing a small portion of bands who are doing something different in the music industry as a whole without having a lot or any radio play at all,” says Norma Jean lead vocalist Cory Brandon. “The truth is, I think radio should conform to what bands like us are doing, instead of us conforming to what they’re currently playing just to get on the radio. It doesn't and shouldn't work like that in music. We’re making headway without their support and we’re not at all against the idea of heavier bands having radio play, but this doesn’t and won't change what we are doing artistically whatsoever.”
Growing up in the hills of North Carolina, members of metal aficionados Between the Buried and Me devoured music, from radio hits to their parents’ old vinyl. Years later, after releasing three albums on Victory Records, including 2005’s Alaska–hailed as “Album Of The Year” by FMQB Metal Reporters–Between the Buried and Me are well on their way to reaching the goals they set for themselves while laying on bedroom floors listening to their favorite bands. With The Anatomy Of–the group’s just released album of covers–the band pays homage to their heroes covering anthems from Metallica, Queen, Smashing Pumpkins and Pink Floyd to name a few. Over the years, Between the Buried and Me have sold 160,000 albums and are currently touring on Ozzfest 2006.
Hailing from Denver, CO, Fear Before The March Of Flames is a blitz of screamo, metal and post-hardcore. The group released their second album Art Damage on Equal Vision and quickly garnered acclaim from fans and critics alike. Fear Before The March Of Flames spent the next nine months on the road with Underoath, Norma Jean and Darkest Hour, in addition to joining the Sounds of the Underground ’05 Tour (headlined by Clutch and Lamb of God) and completing the first of two headlining runs last fall. The band teamed with Bobby Darling guitarist of Gatsby's American Dream and Casey Bates (Portugal, The Man, Daphne Loves Derby, Forgive Durden) for production duties on their forthcoming album The Always Open Mouth, due out September 19 on Equal Vision.
Misery Signals will be releasing their second full-length Mirrors on Ferret Music on August 22. The new album is chock full of the band’s signature brew of vicious metal blasts, post-hardcore technicality and atmospheric sections. Recorded with producer Ben Schigel (Chimaira, ZAO) Mirrors boasts an even larger sound than the band’s debut Of Malice & The Magnum Heart (2004), which was heralded as a modern-day metal-core classic earning legions of fans, critical acclaim and tours with artists such as The Dillinger Escape Plan, ZAO, Bleeding Through and Strapping Young Lad, among others.
Hailing from the suburbs of Ottawa, Ontario, The Fully Down take melodic punk to new heights with a powerful, three-guitar attack combining technical, metallic riffs with strong, melodic choruses to create songs both energetic and infectious. The band released their debut No Fate…But What We Make For Ourselves (2004) and was deemed by Alternative Press as "Your next favorite band." The Fully Down’s DIY style has earned them a reputation as one of the hardest working, self-sufficient up-and-coming bands. The group signed with Fearless Records and released Don’t Get Lost In A Movement in November of 2005. The Fully Down is currently performing on the Smartpunk Stage all summer long on the Vans Warped Tour ‘06.
With a true sense of diligence and professionalism rarely seen, Southern California’s The Confession have catapulted themselves into full touring band status only one year after their inception. The charging force created by the band as a whole is undeniably inspiring to any hard rock fan. The screaming guitars lay down emotional leads that convey a window into the spiritual side of the band and metal music. The Confession released their self-titled EP in October 2005 on Record Collection. After touring with Avenged Sevenfold and the Taste Of Chaos tour this spring, the band performed on the Vans Warped Tour ’06 this summer. The Confession will head into the studio this September to record their full-length debut album–produced by M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold–due out early next year.
