RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, TOOL, BECK, THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS, MORRISSEY AND PERRY FARRELL AMONG THE MORE THAN 80 ECLECTIC ARTISTS SLATED TO PERFORM
AT THE COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL 1999
Saturday, October 9 and Sunday, October 10
EMPIRE POLO FIELD–INDIO, CA
Top artists from the fields of alternative, rock, electronic and hip hop, as well as many of the world’s renowned DJs, are confirmed to appear at the COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL 1999. This two-day event–organized by Goldenvoice concert promoters–is dedicated to artistic integrity and a commitment to unity. Beck, the Chemical Brothers, Cibo Matto, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Moby, Morrissey, Pavement, Perry Farrell, Rage Against the Machine, Tool and Underworld are among the artists who will perform at the event, which is set for Saturday, October 9 and Sunday, October 10 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA.
Scheduled during the Columbus Day holiday weekend, the festival includes artists known for their commitment to political causes and charitable endeavors and will feature a main stage, an outdoor theater, dance tent and two DJ tents.
In addition to artistic integrity, fan comfort is a high priority for Goldenvoice organizers. The Empire Polo Field–which has hosted Pearl Jam in the past–was chosen for its ambience, scenic desert setting overlooking the mountains and convenience to an extensive range of accommodations within a 30-mile radius. The venue itself encompasses over 70 acres of lawn and will include a full acre of shaded ground with tented picnic benches. Other amenities include affordable water, mist tents and plenty of restrooms. Event organizers are also concerned about a comfortable environment spatially and are limiting ticket sales to ensure plenty of breathing room. Goldenvoice partner Rick Van Santen notes: “It’s a clear testament that we’re thinking about the fan’s experience. We’re not selling to capacity. We’re capping sales so each fan will have a great time.”
Goldenvoice is the most active concert promoter in the Western United States and has promoted some of the industry’s marquee festivals including Lollapalooza, H.O.R.D.E., Warped and many others. Paul Tollett, one of the three partners of Goldenvoice, says: “We're really taking the comfort of the patron into consideration. Having seen festivals throughout the world and having promoted many ourselves, we want to set a new standard with this event.”
“Our first goal in putting something like this together is to think about the fan,” says Goldenvoice partner Moss Jacobs. “We imagine all the things the fan will care about during their festival day and see if we can deliver it, from a more artistic and creative line-up to affordable water. We don’t proceed with the event unless we feel we can provide a certain kind of experience.”
The $50.00 ticket (plus applicable Ticketmaster fees) includes the cost of parking and enables a fan to see over 40 live performances per day.
