While RED FANG wrap their way across the U.S. on their autumn tour, the rising rock group are exclusively premiering the video for “Blood Like Cream”–the first single off their new album WHALES AND LEECHES (Relapse)–today, December 12 via RollingStone.com. Actor/comedian Fred Armisen (“Portlandia,” “Saturday Night Live”) joins in the fun with the beer-loving Portland-based band. Watch the raucous clip, directed by Whitey McConnaughy, exclusively at Rolling Stone:http://tinyurl.com/lwlag79. RED FANG will also make their national, late-night television debut on The Late Show with David Letterman Friday, January 10 (11:35/10:35p CT) and perform “Blood Like Cream.”
“I love Red Fang and I had the best time doing the video,” says Fred Armisen. “It was fun for me to do and Whitey was a total pleasure to work with, too.”
“In keeping with a long tradition dating back to 2007, we have made another epic, hilarious video with Whitey McConnaughy, the content of which is completely unrelated to the lyrical content of the song,” explains the band’s bassist/vocalist AARON BEAM. “This song is about the stress of balancing a touring lifestyle with having a family back home, but who wants to see a video about that? BORING! Instead, we have a video featuring lots of blood, beer, and exercise–some of us did more running in this video that we’ve done the whole year to date. Also, Fred Armisen is in this one and he really steals the show. I thought I was a bad actor before, but after working with him, I see I cannot even qualify for such a high distinction as ‘bad.’ We hope everyone has as much fun watching it as we had making it!!”
RED FANG have created a new video game–a virtual beer shot-gunning challenge–and if enough users share the game, they’ll be able to unlock the new RED FANG track “Behind the Light.” Play and share the game here: http://beer.redfang.net.
Released October 15 on Relapse Records, WHALES AND LEECHES debuted at #66 on the Billboard Album Chart, marking the group’s highest sales week and first debut in the Top 200. RED FANG are generating critical acclaim from SPIN, Revolver, Magnet, Alternative Press and more for their new album which was produced by Chris Funk (Decemberists) and mixed by Vance Powell (White Stripes, Raconteurs, Kings of Leon). Featuring such guests as Mike Scheidt (Yob) and Pall Jenkins (The Black Heart Procession), WHALES AND LEECHES propels RED FANG into the upper stratosphere of the heavy rock and metal elite.

“Red Fang continue creating shuffling, boot-scootin’ heavy rock with just enough stoner sensibility. The best song ‘Blood Like Cream,’ hides its locomotive chug with pseudo-soothing Josh Homme-style vocals and classic-rock drum breaks. ZZ Top metal at its crunchy best.”
-Kory Grow, SPIN (Oct. 29, 2013)
“Whales And Leeches is…bigger, bolder, heavier catchier and even more savagely fun. ‘Crows in Swine’ turns fluid, Mastodon-like metal into a venom-fanged hook-fest, and ‘This Animal’ uses grungy licks to dirty up its classic-rock songcraft. But the centerpiece is ‘Blood Like Cream.’ As brutally bacchanalian as a Viking on shore leave, it’s an infectious reminder of what Queens of the Stone Age once sounded like-and how powerfully Whales And Leeches makes the case for Red Fang’s sludgy godhood.”
-Jason Heller, ALTERNATIVE PRESS (Oct. 2013)
“Whales and Leeches, due out in October, has a Queens of the Stone Age-meets Mastodon vibe. …The new Red Fang album is a violent one, from its burly riffage to its apocalyptic lyrics.”
-Sammi Chichester, REVOLVER (Oct/Nov2013)
“While inherently heavy and sonically adventurous, at the heart of every Red Fang album there are hooks and fist-in-the-air choruses that are among the most accessible and unshakable in the underground. The darkness and anger of Whales And Leeches is very human, very adult, very real, and it stands in stark contrast to the cartoonish petulant temper tantrums of the band’s more extreme peers. Coupled with the sophisticated grooves and domineering riffs on tracks like ‘Voices of the Dead,’ ‘Dawn Rising’ and ‘Blood Like Cream,’ these grim vibes make for that most rare of beasts: the album that is as mature as it is invigorating, as deep as it is visceral. Whales And Leeches is a monumental success-a clear line from Red Fang’s earliest recordings to its latest, but it also displays a band that has grown and progressed.”
-Sean Maloney, MAGNET, (Nov/Dec 2013)
“…hyper-charged bulldozer riffs, lyrics about a doomed winter and death tolls, and bellowed vocals that recall burly forefathers like Mastodon and Baroness. With a couple of songs featuring guest appearances by Mike Sheidt of doomsters Yob and Pall Jankins of mopey indie rockers Black Heart Procession, the group has upped their own ante, whether they intended to or not.”
-Kory Grow, SPIN (Oct. 2013)
“…a style of immediate, visceral rock inspired by 70’s proto metal, ‘80s punk like Black Flag and Portland legends the Wipers, and the sludgy ballistics of the Melvins and early Queens of the Stone Age. …Red Fang blasts through a string of concise, hook-laden tunes that make for one of the most savagely contagious albums in recent memory.”
-Dave Pehling, SF WEEKLY (November 27, 2013)
“The coiling galloping beast that is album opener ‘DOEN’ is frankly bitchin’, as there’s probably no better word for it, and the same could be said for ‘Crows In Swine’ and the Pearl Jam-esque ‘Behind The Light.’ Likewise, the whole thing is effortlessly catchy. Red Fang is equally as engaging when they step away from the uptempo stomping, the psychedelic nightmare of ‘Dawn Rising’ is insidiousness at its most compelling. Get those horns in the air.”
–Dan Slessor, OUTBURN, (Oct/Jan 2013-14)
“Red Fang are primed for a breakout this fall with their new album, Whales and Leeches, a blistering hard rock release that should translate well to the live stage.’
-Chad Childers, LOUDWIRE, (Oct. 7, 2013)
“The blistering opening track, ‘DOEN,’ kicks in with a rampaging, Sabbath-style stomp, ebbing and flowing with off-kilter riffs provided by bassist Aaron Beam and guitarists Bryan Giles and David Sullivan. Listening to such anthemic grinders as ‘Blood and Cream,’ ‘No Hope,’ and ‘The Animal,’ you realize just how much effort these musicians have put into focusing their sound without sacrificing the abrasive textures and fuzzed-out melodies that defined their previous work. The monstrously heavy main riff of ‘Dawn Rising’ demonstrates the tight interplay and sense of groove that Giles, Sullivan, and Beam share. Clearly they understand how you play a riff is just as important as what notes are in it. This has always been the biggest strength of Red Fang’s songwriting, but on Whales and Leeches it has become second nature.
-Jordan Wagner, PREMIER GUITAR (Oct. 2013)
“Portland’s Red Fang barely lets its engine idle on the band’s third full-length album, Whales and Leeches, blasting listeners in the face with 11 feel-good stoner-metal stompers that scrub starched skin like crisp, high mountain air. Whether singing about wasted angels, the absence of hope, or blood-sucking animals, the foursome serves it up with neck-ripping riffs and a sense of humor.”
-Brendan Dabkowski, ALARM (Oct. 15, 2013)
“high-gloss, high-impact, catchy-as-all-f*** stoner-sludge…’Blood Like Cream’ is the first single to be released from Red Fang’s forthcoming third LP, Whales And Leeches; the thing just stomps from the first drum hit, but when it shifts into the brain-frying bridge two-thirds of the way through, it takes flight and soars. Listen.”
-Michael Nelson, STEREOGUM, (Aug. 27, 2013)

About RED FANG:
Formed in 2005, the Portland, OR-based RED FANG—Bryan Giles (Guitar/Vocals), Aaron Beam (Bass/Vocals), David Sullivan (Guitar), John Sherman (Drums)–released their 2009 self-titled debut on Sargent House and 2011’s Murder the Mountains on Relapse Records. Listen to both albums streaming on www.redfang.bandcamp.com. RED FANG quickly became known for their series of hilarious videos directed by Whitey McConnaughy (Band Of Horses, Flogging Molly, Turbonegro). Each clip was picked up by Reddit and went viral, garnering over 1 million+ views. Watch “Wires:” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQPfQvLIseA and “Hank Is Dead:” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgV7hnjoyt0. RED FANG spent the past few years touring the world and wining over audiences at clubs and festivals like All Tomorrow’s Parties, Rock on the Range, Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival and Metallica’s Orion Music & More Fest. After high-profile tours with Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Helmet, Saint Vitus and more, the band expanded their global footprint with a European trek and festival appearances across the continent. 2013-14 promises to be the biggest for RED FANG yet, with their intense live performances, unique brand of humor, catchy songwriting and independent attitude—they show no signs of slowing down.
