RIVER CITY REBELS
SET TO RELEASE ‘HATE TO BE LOVED,’
PRODUCED BY NEW YORK DOLLS’ SYLVAIN SYLVAIN;
BAND IN THE MIDST OF VANS WARPED TOUR TREK
RIVER CITY REBELS are set to unleash their brash, loose-limbed and trashy rock ‘n roll with the release of HATE TO BE LOVED September 21 on Victory Records. The seven-piece punk rock group recorded 12 rock and roll gems with legendary Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Seeking the energy and sound of the 1970s analog studio, the songs were recorded using vintage gear, a 1972 console and two-inch tape.
Drawing inspiration from Bowie, T-Rex, the Stones, Sex Pistols, The Clash and Iggy Pop, RIVER CITY REBELS capture “the ups and downs and down and outs of what it’s like to be young, horny and in love.” The album features guest appearances by Sylvain Sylvain, Jesse Malin, Grammy-winner/Rolling Stones back-up vocalist Lisa Fischer and Vic Ruggerio.
A rag-tag band of rock ‘n’ roll misfits that formed in a small town in Vermont, RIVER CITY REBELS deliver crass, horn-laden punk rock that has helped land them on some of the biggest punk rock tours around including the legendary Dead Kennedys, Less Than Jake, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Roget Miret and the Disasters, Pietasters and Tsunami Bomb. They were also invited by Duff McKagan to open for Velvet Revolver at Sayreville, New Jersey’s Starland Ballroom in late July. The band is currently touring the U.S. on the Vans Warped Tour.
The album’s 12 raucous old-school punk songs include the sardonic sing-along “Hate To Be Loved,” the infectious raunchy sex and alcohol anthem “Cloudy Times,” the somber, yet up-tempo “No Easy Way Out” and the swaggering and bittersweet “Die Young.” The album closes with the dark and sweet ballad “Bloody April,” which features a string section.
Iggy Pop-esque frontman the BOPPER leads THE REBELS’ rebellion. His provocative stage presence and no-holds-barred attitude attract a rowdy slew of followers. He is backed by an unruly bunch, with ERIK on drums and C.J. on bass forming the backbone of the battalion. On guitar, PATTI BOTOX and JAKE explode with guttural rock n’ roll guitar riffs, while RYLAN (tenor sax) and BRANDON (trombone) play their brass with balls, while finishing the audience off with their crowd pleasing dance moves.
