SELLS OUT LOS ANGELES AREA SHOW
AFTER TWO CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED SOLD-OUT SHOWS IN NEW YORK CITY
The ROCK THE BELLS and PAID DUES festivals kicked off with praise from both the hip-hop community and press as they joined forces at New York’s Randall’s Island Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29 for two sold-out shows of 35,000 fans each day. Positively featured in many papers such as USA Today, New York Times and New York Daily News, the shows “…not only provided plenty of proof of how potent the genre still is, but it offered a blueprint of ideas rappers could use to make hip-hop even more powerful in the future,” noted Glenn Gamboa in Newsday (7/30/07). The shockwave set off by the success of the New York festivals plus the following show dates since then in Atlanta, Santa Fe and more have solidified a sold-out date in the Los Angeles area tomorrow at the Hyundai Pavilion at Glen Helen.
The ROCK THE BELLS tour, presented by Guerilla Union, features headliners Wu-Tang Clan and Nas, Cypress Hill*, UGK*, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Immortal Technique and Jedi Mind Tricks for the hip-hop extravaganza, hosted by freestyle legend Supernatural and Rahzel “The Godfather of Noyze.” (*Indicates will appear on selected dates). As they did at the two NYC dates, Rage Against The Machine will headline August 11 in San Bernardino, CA and August 18 in San Francisco, CA. The band is "a hip-hop-infused rock powerhouse that, after eight years in exile, is back at full strength and ready for the here and now (Philadelphia Inquirer, 7/31/07)."
PAID DUES, organized by MURS 3:16 in association with Guerilla Union, features the best and brightest in underground hip-hop including Felt (Murs of Living Legends, Slug & Ant of Atmosphere), Sage Francis and Brother Ali, Cage, Mr. Lif, Grouch & Eligh, Hangar 18, Blueprint and Lucky I Am. Minneapolis City Pages recently wrote “…it's surprising just how star-studded this iteration of the Paid Dues Tour is—it's like a one-stop shop for self-deprecating battle rhymes and intriguingly distended flows (7/25/07),” while the New York Times continued that the PAID DUES stage “was for veterans of the indie-rap circuit, most of whom know how to work a crowd, no matter the size (7/30/07).”
