SAM MOORE
TO PERFORM OCTOBER 23 AT B.B. KING’S NYC CLUB;
TO BE FEATURED IN MIRAMAX FILM ‘ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE’
SAM MOORE will be making several high-profile appearances this month in connection with the recent release of his long-awaited solo debut PLENTY GOOD LOVIN’: THE LOST SOLO ALBUM (2K Sounds), which USA Today called “a masterpiece” in a four star album review (8/20/02). In addition to TV and benefit performances, SAM will perform a special solo show October 23 in New York City which management is calling his “solo launch.”
The legendary Soul Man will kick it all off Wednesday, October 16 when he performs with the CBS Orchestra on the Late Show with David Letterman. This will be followed by two special appearances at the “Rock To The Rescue” benefit concerts Saturday, October 19 at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey and Sunday, October 20 at the Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. With musical acts ranging from Styx, Bad Company, Foreigner and REO Speedwagon, these shows will raise money for the Port Authority Police World Trade Disaster Survivors Fund and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Educational Fund.
Back in New York City, MOORE will drop in on the Don Imus radio show Tuesday, October 22 to catch up with the nationally syndicated radio host and sing a few tunes. MOORE will then attend a special industry screening, set up in his honor, Wednesday, October 23 for D.A. Pennebaker’s forthcoming Miramax film “Only The Strong Survive,” in which he is prominently featured. Immediately following this screening, SAM will perform a special show that night at B.B. King’s Blues Club.
The event at B.B. King’s will spotlight SAM‘s first American performance in support of PLENTY GOOD LOVIN’, which was supposed to have launched his solo career over 30 years ago when he split from his partner in Sam & Dave, the ’60s soul duo responsible for such classic Pop and R&B hits as “Soul Man,” “Hold On! I’m A-Comin’,” “I Thank You” and “You Don’t Know Like I Know.” This concert–expected to be heavily attended by fans, friends and celebrity peers–is lovingly being referred to as “his solo launch”…a little late.
In addition to MOORE‘s celebrated vocals, the concert will feature three of the seminal players from the famous Atlantic “house” rhythm section: guitarist Cornell Dupree, drummer Bernard Purdie and bassist Chuck Rainey, all of whom appear on PLENTY GOOD LOVIN’, which was recorded over 30 years ago.
