SASHA NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY IN ‘BEST REMIXED RECORDING’ CATEGORY
FOR HIS REMIX OF FELIX DA HOUSECAT’S “WATCHING CARS GO BY”:
SONG FEATURED ON SASHA’S ‘INVOLVER’ ALBUM
SASHA CELEBRATES 2005 IN ACAPULCO
“Sasha has a knack for pleasing huge crowds without pandering to them. He eschews both the obvious and the unusual, thumping beats with complicated electronic patterns that
slowly decay and mutate.”
–Kalefah Sanneh, New York Times (December 3, 2004)
Just coming off the November 16 release of the special edition of his Involver album and the launch of his new Fundacion bi-costal monthly residency at crobar in New York City and Avalon in Los Angeles, SASHA’s activity in the American music landscape escalates with his first Grammy nomination in the ‘Best Remixed Recording’ category for his remix of Felix Da Housecat’s “Watching Cars Go By” (Sasha’s Remix). The song–which appears on SASHA’s current Global Underground effort Involver–was an important component of this redefining package, a critically acclaimed part-DJ mix, part-remix album and part-artist album. Other artists whose works have received the SASHA remix treatment on Involver include UNKLE, Grand National and Ulrich Schnauss, plus other past credits for Madonna, Seal, Pet Shop Boys, The Chemical Brothers, BT, Orbital and Gus Gus.
At a club level, Sasha’s remix of “Watching Cars Go By” was a highlight of his set during the Involver support tour this summer and fall which took him through various markets around the globe including stops in Melborne, Ibiza, New York, London, Beijing and Seoul. “That's Sasha, perhaps the most imaginative artist in the industry who fights for every beat to give it life on the dance floor. He's melancholic but euphoric, hypnotic and introspective, and has a built-in radar to find the club's g-spot.,” wrote Andrew Petty in the Korea Herald (11/19/2004). “If you are still clueless about who he is, then consider this: the DJ scene is only augmented by record sales and radio air play. What counts is the bits and pieces fans remember the next day after his shows and then spreading the word around until every club in the universe is trying to book this guy.”
In other news, SASHA will head south of the border to ring in the New Year with a big beach bash in Playa San Vicente, Acapulco Diamante, Mexico. The 18+ event will kick off at 5 pm and go through until noon the next day. Tickets will be sold though www.djsasha.com for $47 and $92 for VIP which includes a two-hour top shelf open bar. More information can be found at www.heartbeatmexico.com, www.smarticketmx.com and www.rvpmexico.com
Meanwhile, SASHA recently re-located back to New York City, home to his New York Fundacion residency at crobar the first Friday of the month from now until June. Upcoming dates are: January 7 (opening party), February 4, March 4, April 1, May 6 and June 3 (closing party). His other Fundacion residency at Avalon in Los Angeles takes place the last Saturday of the month, also from now until June. Dates for the west coast installment–presented by LA club promoter GIANT–are: December 18 (opening party), January 29, February 26, March 19, April 23 and May 28 (closing party). SASHA’s next release is the 10th Anniversary reissue of his and John Digweed’s Renaissance: The Mix Collection due out on Renaissance/Studio Distribution January 25, 2005.
