SPECIAL CONCERT BENEFITING CHILDREN’S MUSIC FUND
SATURDAY, JUNE 25 AT THE TERAGRAM BALLROOM TICKETS ON-SALE NOW
![]() On Saturday, June 25, the Children’s Music Fund (CMF) will host a benefit concert headlined by LA-based singer/songwriter/producer and official Spokesperson SHANA HALLIGAN at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles, CA supported by special guest Jungle Fire. An all-ages event, tickets are on sale now at: http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/090050AF15993781?brand=teragram
The evening will support the CMF, whose 14 years of service leads the mission to provide the healing power of music to child patients affected by chronic and life-altering illnesses. As the music spokesperson, Shana Halligan will help raise awareness about music therapy and the natural healing effects it provides for chronically ill children suffering with pain, anxiety and fear. “I’m so excited and honored to be able to lend my support in its efforts to provide music therapy to those unable to afford it. From a young age, music has played an influential role in my life and now as a new mom I am thrilled to have the opportunity to make a difference in children’s lives.” Those attending the concert will be treated to a unique performance from Halligan and her band.
Healing through music therapy has always been founder Dr. Raffi Tachdijan‘s mission in helping his patients. Dr. Tachdjian, a musician, allergist and pediatric pain specialist, found CMF in 2002 while he was an intern at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Tachdjian found inspiration in one of his teenage patients, who had failed multiple experimental protocols for the treatment of his bone cancer. Knowing the patient was a virtuoso guitar player, Dr. Tachdjian was determined to find an instrument to help his patient focus on something other than his disease. Finding none in the hospital, Dr. Tachdjian set out to raise funds to bring instruments and later music therapy to help his patients sooth. About CMF’s spokesperson, he adds, “It’s amazing that we have Shana Halligan as the spokesperson for CMF. But the most important thing is that she has a heart of gold, and wants to improve the lives of sick kids through music therapy!”
“The singer is giving us Meghan Trainor all All About That Bass feels – only darker and sexier. And we’re way into it!” – Perez Hilton, Perezhilton.com (3/24/16)
“Let Shana Halligan shoot to the top of your attention. ‘Something Real’ is a slinky, smooth, electro-pop single reminiscent of AlunaGeorge, Hundred Waters, and Son Lux while still treading the delicate intimacies of someone too reserved to overwhelm you with an intense light show.”
– Nina Corcoran, Nerdist (9/16/15)
“Even if you don’t know Shana Halligan’s name, you’ve probably heard her voice. Besides fronting the late-’00s electro-soul group Bitter:Sweet, she’s done vocals for Nouvelle Vague and Thievery Corporation, lighting up the latter’s 2014 single ‘Depth of My Soul.’ On her second solo outing, the just-released Back to Me, Halligan stays in her sultry, soulful comfort zone on ‘Tired of Alone’ and the dubby ‘Been Waiting’ but also dabbles convincingly in throwback, finger-poppin’ R&B on ‘Get Gone’ and delivers a torchy pop ballad worthy of Solange or Sia on ‘Illuminate,’ the album’s showstopper.”
– Andy Hermann, LA WEEKLY (11/11/15)
“Fifteen cuts in all, the tantalizing ‘Something Real’ combines a pop luster and a seductive plastic nature with pure, primal emotion. Halligan’s singing holds in reserve but connects to some deep feeling. ‘Been Waiting’ suggests real pain; its melodic invention and propulsive beat grab you by the ear, while ‘Take You Home’ with its slow funk and sultry honesty, almost make you think this is a blues album in disguise.”
– John Ephland, DownBeat (November 2015)
“Shana Halligan of Bitter:Sweet is a sultry songstress whose new solo album explores human sensuality through songs of romance, heartache and longing.”
—KCRW (11/18/15)
“Shana Halligan’s forthcoming Back to Me is a breakup album, or, more specifically, a post-breakup album that circles back to the simple empowerment theme of being all right with yourself. The singer-songwriter was one-half of the trip-hop duo Bitter:Sweet, who made their mark with the 2006 album The Mating Game; she’s collaborated and co-written with the likes of the Thievery Corporation and System of a Down’s Serj Tankian; and in 2011 she went solo, releasing an EP that year and a full-length the next. Her new effort, out Oct. 16 via Plug Research, is a sleek, soulful and slab of jazz-informed electronic pop with production that subtly slips between the retro (like opener ‘Get Gone’), the modern (‘Tired of Alone,’ ‘Can’t Live Without Your Love’) and a sensual combination of both (‘Freak’). Considering that the album is a snapshot of Halligan’s feelings as she was moving on from one relationship, it’s somewhat ironic that Back to Me was finally being finished when she was in another – and at the time she found out she was pregnant. (She became a mom in July.) Maybe all that catharsis worked? It certainly makes for good listening.”
-Kevin Bronson, Buzzbands.la (9/9/15)
“Shana brings a breath of fresh air to the world of modern adult contemporary….”
– Ethan Goodman, Monsters & Critics (11/16/15)
“Shana Halligan’s name and voice will be recognizable to those familiar with her previous project, the trip-hop duo Bitter:Sweet. Halligan comes into her own on the aptly titled solo disc Back to Me (Plug Research). Halligan doesn’t entirely abandon her electro-hop roots on songs such as ‘Tired of Alone,’ ‘Something Real,’ ‘Freak’ and ‘If I Knew.’ But it’s on the songs where she really stretches her creative muscles, including the title track, ‘Can’t Live Without Your Love,’ and a fresh cover of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam’s ‘I Wonder If I Take You Home,’ that Shana shines.”
