“It’s truly exciting to release the first music video in support my new solo project,” BRIAN shares. “In my opinion, this is more than just an average music video; it’s a beautiful motion picture. Up and coming director Derek Pearson really nailed it!”
BRIAN and his band The Shadows offered a firsthand look at the “Sidelined” music video when they performed on Fox 17 Nashville’s “Tennessee Mornings” on Wednesday, December 5. Check out their performance of “Sidelined” here, BRIAN’s interview here and web exclusive performance of “Josie”–written with Nashville writer and artist Shelley Fairchild—here.
The band has a show this Monday, December 10 at The Basement in Nashville and recently announced a string of dates on the West Coast, kicking off January 24 in San Francisco, with shows in Pacifica, CA and Santa Cruz, CA. More dates will be added to the routing, including a Los Angeles stop. 1983 pays homage to that decade of undeniably addictive pop with a modern twist. Propelled by BRIAN’s rich, at times gritty, vocals sung with an abundance of passion and conviction, 1983 is sure to please his ever-growing group of loyal fans–over 4,000 Facebook fans and over 5,000 Twitter followers–while drawing in new fans and further establishing BRIAN’s place in music.
The Ridgeland, MS native was recently profiled in Mississippi Legends magazine which wrote, “From the saxophone solo in ‘Sidelined’ to the guitar tones and Prince-like guitar solo in ‘Josie,’ 1983 definitely captures the feeling of the early ‘80s without ever sounding like a retro-act. He also accomplishes the amazing feat of putting together a collection of songs that are entirely different from each other, yet still sound as though they belong together, which is something that is becoming increasing rare in an era where a lot of new albums sound like mixtapes.” (November 2012)
His father a guitar player and mother a jazz vocalist, BRIAN was born into music. He picked up a guitar at age 9. Self-taught, he started writing music early and began showing off his guitar skills to the public performing in between his mom’s sets at local clubs, honing his performing skills and garnering a diverse, local following.
In 2007, BRIAN found his way to Nashville hoping to be seen and heard by the industry that mattered most. He embedded himself in the music scene and put together his first Nashville band, Newmatic. The band gained an increasingly loyal audience within the area but BRIAN was determined to show the world what he was all about and in the summer of 2011, he auditioned for the hit TV reality competition “The Voice.” His version of Grace Potter’s “Paris” earned him a spot on Team Blake (Shelton) and the chance to work alongside Shelton and Kelly Clarkson.
