SLIPKNOT BEATS OUT MADONNA AND SHANIA ON THE BILLBOARD CHARTS, ENTERS AT #1!
Des Moines, Iowa based 9-piece masters of the new-metal scene, SLIPKNOT, have made themselves WELCOME at Retail in a huge way. Their home video, WELCOME TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, released on November 9th shipped to GOLD status out-of-the-box and scored the #1 spot on the Billboard top music video chart (beating out the debut weeks by both Madonna and Shania Twain)!
The home video features the controversial video for the song “Spit It Out,” live footage of the band performing their current hot rock radio single “Wait And Bleed,” exclusive interview footage and much more.
Over 10,000 (SoundScan) fans scrambled to get a hold of it this very first week!
This is a reflection of the band’s overall success, reflected in the self-titled album’s #1 Billboard “Heatseekers” chart debut (in the 7/17/99 issue) and ensuing top-10 run ever since. An interesting side-note is the fact that the album had the biggest first-week sales debut of any aggro-rock band in the history of SoundScan (including Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Deftones).
It is onward and upward for SLIPKNOT in the year 2000–continued US touring (after OZZFEST ’99, support slot on COAL CHAMBER‘s hot tour and a string of SOLD OUT European dates), stepped up press exposure (after pieces in SPIN,ROLLING STONE and many more) and continued aggressive marketing presence.
