SMOKEY ROBINSON
TO GIVE FIRST LOS ANGELES PERFORMANCE IN 12 YEARS
AS HIS NEW RADIO SHOW IS SET TO DEBUT JULY 24;
'TRACKS OF MY TEARS' VOTED #5 ALL-TIME SONG BY MOJO MAGAZINE
The legendary SMOKEY ROBINSON will make his first Los Angeles concert appearance in 12 years when he hits the stage Saturday, July 29 at the Universal Amphitheater. In addition to the live show, SMOKEY's hit "Tracks Of My Tears" (which he wrote with Marv Tarplin and Warren Moore) was recently named one of the five best songs ever in a poll by England's prestigious Mojo magazine of 20 renowned songwriters, including Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson. On the live front, SMOKEY is touring in support of his latest Motown release INTIMATE and has dates across the country scheduled through August.
Meanwhile, after having great success as a songwriter, producer, performer and record company executive, SMOKEY is undertaking a new role: radio show host. Beginning July 24, Los Angeles radio station Mega 92.3 Jammin' Oldies will broadcast "Intimate with Smokey Robinson" Monday through Thursday from 8:00 to 10:00 PM Pacific time. On the show SMOKEY will be getting to know his listeners via one-on-one phone calls, playing some of his favorite music and talking about his favorite subject…LOVE.
"I've been blessed with the opportunity to write songs and perform them for people during my career," says SMOKEY. "With the 'Intimate' radio show, I'll be able to interact with listeners and play great music from other artists as well. It's going to be a lot of fun." SMOKEY's live performance will include hits from his days with THE MIRACLES, his solo career and a few standards. Of his latest CD, Gary Graff wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle, "…'Intimate' gives us Robinson as love man, his keening vocals in high seductive gear as he promises to cherish, respect and 'hold you near, like buttah.' Oww…the agreeably sparse production makes them nice vehicles for one of Robinson's finest singing performances yet." Elsewhere, Interview magazine said of the CD, "Robinson floats so high in the upper atmosphere of the ultra-smooth that he's off the radar."
