“The thing STS9 certainly does better than any other live band is embrace the power and predictability of a large build and subsequent drop, a tactic usually reserved for the computerized world of EDM. The strategy plays right into the hands of lighting director Saxton Waller, who uses these moments to trigger brighter and brighter outbursts from his firework show of a rig.”
Acclaimed and adventurous electronic rock band STS9–who recently released THE UNIVERSE INSIDE, their first new full-length album in nearly seven years–has revealed their initial tour dates for 2017 with the announcement of back-to-back shows in Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago and Las Vegas. The band is set to headline The Wiltern in Los Angeles January 20 and 21, ACL Live at the Moody Theater in Austin January 27 and 28, the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago February 3 and 4 and Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas March 31 and April 1. Tickets for Los Angeles, Austin and Chicago are on sale now, with Las Vegas on-sales beginning this Friday, October 28 at 10am PT. Go to www.sts9.com for more information and ticketing links.
The new dates come on the heels of STS9‘s kickoff to their headlining Fall Tour in support of THE UNIVERSE INSIDE, which began this past Thursday, October 20 in Minneapolis. STS9—Hunter Brown (guitar/sequences), Jeffree Lerner (percussion), David Phipps (keyboards/synths), Zach Velmer (drums) and Alana Rocklin (bass)–are bringing their expansive sound, innovative style combining the energy of 21st century dance music with the dynamics of a band, one-of-a-kind critically acclaimed production and message of unity to audiences throughout the Midwest and East Coast, including a stop at New York City’s Terminal 5 on November 12, before wrapping the month-long outing with two nights in San Francisco: November 19 at The Masonic and November 20 at The Fillmore.
Additionally, the festival favorites–consistently ranked on Pollstar magazine’s list of the nation’s top 40 touring acts–will make their debut at the upcoming Voodoo Music + Arts Experience and return to Suwannee Hulaween and Dominican Holidaze. The band caps off an incredible year with a three-night New Year’s celebration run at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver for December 29-31. See below for full list of upcoming tour dates.
THE UNIVERSE INSIDE–released September 2 via the band’s own 1320 Records–debuted at #1 on the iTunes and Amazon Electronic Albums Charts and #2 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums Chart, marking their highest position to date on that chart. The 13-track album–the band’s first featuring bassist Alana Rocklin-features lead single “Get Loud,” acollaboration with singer/songwriter Betty Idol and acclaimed production team the J.U.S.T.I.CE. League, and opens with “Supercluster,” which samples the original NASA STS-9 radio transmission and represents the band’s return from a journey that began with their 1998 debut, Interplanetary Escape Vehicle. Written, recorded, produced and mixed by the band at their own 1320 Mission Control in Santa Cruz, CA, THE UNIVERSE INSIDE comes on the cusp of STS9‘s 20th Anniversary (in 2017).
