SUNSET STRIP MARKET OFFERS FRESH, SEASONAL TREATS THIS MONTH
Freshly Harvested Almonds, Dates And Apples Are Among The September Additions At The Weekly Thursday Night Market
THE SUNSET STRIP MARKET, a weekly certified farmers’ market, is preparing for fall with new, seasonal items and offerings. Among the new items for September include:
– Cuyama Orchards will be on site beginning September 13 with Gala and Honeycrisp apples. (Additional varieties will be available throughout the fall, including Sweeties, Fuji’s, Granny Smith, Crimson Gold, Lady, Arkanasas Black, Newtown Pippin, Spitzenberg and Pink Ladies.)
– Freshly harvested yellow Barhi dates and Medjool dates from Oasis Dates.
– Freshly harvested almonds from Fat Uncle Farms.
– Silver Lake Farms will feature an assortment of microgreens, including yellow pal choi, red streaks mizuna, basil, fennel and sunflower. Silver Lake Farms will also have golden oyster mushrooms.
– Gama Farms’ grapes, figs, potatoes, onions and eggs.
– Marcie’s Pies will feature jams and an assortment of pies as well as their September pie of the month, Raspberry Peach.
– Jimenez Farms’ produce for September will include sweet corn, zucchini blossoms, fresh garbanzo beans, heirloom tomatoes and squash as well as sustainably raised, hormone- and antibiotic-free lamb, pork, chicken and artisanal sausages.
– Dey Dey Farms sustainably-raised, 100% grass-fed beef steaks and ribs for end of summer barbecues.
– Janae’s Fillets will feature smoked wild-caught salmon from Alaska as well as their salmon pate and jerky.
– Chris Vamos of Milk Man, who sources farmstead California cheeses, is focusing on “fresh, zesty cheeses suitable for end-of-summer get-togethers,” including Cosmos raw, sheep’s milk feta from Garden Variety Cheese in Royal Oaks, which took third in the sheep’s milk feta category at this year’s American Cheese Society festival in Raleigh, NC. Milk Man will also feature Drake Farm’s Glacier from Ontario. “The Glacier is a bloomy, semi-soft cheese…,’” noted Vamos. “Great party cheese; the nuance of it really comes out when heated with strong, indirect heat. Pair with fresh garden veggies and crisp, floral beers.”
The Sunset Strip Market is also happy to announce the addition of new artisanal purveyors, including Domenico’s Foods fresh pasta and sauces; Canela Empanadas featuring vegetarian and meat options; and Pommes Frites.
The Market launched in June and has already grown to be a staple in the neighborhood and surrounding community.
“Walking home with our bag of purchases and seeing others do the same, it felt for the first time in my nearly 30 years here like a real neighborhood community,” noted nearby Los Angeles resident Jack Wishard.
Continuing the community spirit of the Market, each week guests are invited to dine in the “supper garden,” which featurespours from California wineries and local craft breweries, as well as check-out board games from the info booth for some friendly competition and interaction with neighbors and fellow guests.
In addition to providing fresh California produce and an assortment of goods from local artisans, the Sunset Strip Market also hosts weekly entertainment. This month, KCRW DJ Valida will curate the outdoor stage, which features acoustic performances by local Los Angeles bands and singer/songwriters. Past performers have included The Record Company, Blank Tapes, The Sweet Hurt and Chris Laterzo. Upcoming performers include American Bloomers, Psychedelic Cowboys and Matthew Zeltzer.
For those driving to the Market, $5 validated parking options are located nearby, including valet at BLT Steak and Mirabelle restaurants (located across the street from the Market) and self-parking at The Sunset (8570 Sunset Boulevard), 9000 Sunset Boulevard, 9040 Sunset Boulevard and 9026 Sunset Boulevard.
