APRIL 13 AND 14 WANEE FESTIVAL SCHEDULE CONFIRMED;
BOSTON COMMON CONCERT FROM 8/17/71 AVAILABLE TO FANS
THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND have added a 15th and final show—Sunday, April 8–to their annual string of concerts at New York City’s Beacon Theatre. The in-progress dates kicked off on Thursday, March 22 and fans have been treated to wide-ranging set lists, special guests and blistering performances from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 1995 inductees.
Every spring since 1989, the group has taken over New York City for concerts that have become must-see events for fans. This year, the band–GREGG ALLMAN (vocals and keyboards), BUTCH TRUCKS (drums and tympani), JAIMOE (drums), WARREN HAYNES (vocals, lead and slide guitar), DEREK TRUCKS (slide and lead guitar), OTEIL BURBRIDGE (bass) and MARC QUINONES (congas and percussion)—has already played no less than 70 different songs including Allman Brothers Band staples (“Whipping Post,” “One Way Out,” “Mountain Jam”) and select covers (Led Zeppelin, The Band, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan). Special guests onstage have included friends Luther Dickinson, Southside Johnny, Col. Bruce Hampton, Carmine Appice, Audley Freed, Asbury Jukes/Conan O’Brien horns and family like Susan Tedeschi (Derek’s wife), Kofi Burbridge (Oteil’s brother) and Devon Allman (Gregg’s son).
Next up for the group: their two-day Wanee Festival April 13 and 14 in Live Oak, FL, where they’ll be joined by Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Rusted Root, Nickel Creek, The Radiators, Sister Hazel, Rose Hill Drive, Keller Williams and Backyard Tire Fire, as well as ABB members’ side projects including Warren Haynes’ Gov’t Mule, Derek Trucks Band and Oteil and the Peacemakers. Check it out at www.waneefestival.com/
The Allman Brothers Band have also just released BOSTON COMMON 8/17/71 from their personal archives. The CD is highlighted by a 26-minute version of “You Don’t Love Me” and a 19-minute “Whipping Post,” which had the band’s original lineup (founding guitarist DUANE ALLMAN would pass away just 10 weeks later). The CD is available at www.hittinthenote.com or at any Allman Brothers Band show.
The ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND’s full summer touring schedule will be announced soon.
