THE AVIATION ORANGE recently released their new EP EAST OF HERE, the follow-up to their 2009 self-titled debut album which attracted attention from a number of well-respected tastemakers. Armed with infectious indie synth-pop highlighted with beautiful harmonies and compelling lyrics, the Brooklyn band continues to garner support from the media. Last month (8/18) the band was invited to perform as part of Google’s “Musicians@Google” series with Ra Ra Riot.
At the exclusive event, THE AVIATION ORANGE served up songs from EAST OF HERE including the focus track “Ingenuous Us” and “East of Here.” Check out a video of the performance: http://youtu.be/cedhiC5NM-c. Other musicians to have participated in the “Musicians@Google” series include Lady Gaga, Jimmy Buffett, Raphael Saadiq, Rachael Yamagata and others.
THE AVIATION ORANGE continue to tour and have confirmed new dates for the fall, including a slot at the MidPoint Music Festival in Cincinnati next Thursday, September 22. This marks the band’s second appearance at the festival. Brian Baker of Cincinnati CityBeat witnessed their 2009 set and wrote, “…the band hit the stage and got right to work. TAO’s sound hovers in the triangulation of Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse and Echo & the Bunnymen, with Berlin connecting the dots. The band built steadily from mid-tempo to pulsating crescendo pretty quickly and their engaging Indie Rock/Synth Pop found a lot of fans…” (9/26/09)
The new music has also been well received. Caitlin Clive of The Deli NYC said, “Things look pretty exciting for them, and their music offers a lot to be excited about: vocals comparable to Caleb Followill and Zooey Deschanel, a strong guitar section and ambient synthesizer accent” (6/9/11) while Lizzie Plaugic of UnveiledArts.com noted “…new wave sensibilities and male/female vocal trade-offs are more Manchester circa 1982 than Brooklyn 2011…break down boundaries of time and space with their tunes right before your eyes.” (6/19/11)
Elsewhere The Aquarian Weekly’s Ron Smith wrote, “The Aviation Orange’s East Of Here reminded me of Minus The Bear, with the elegance of the vocals and the cleanliness of the instruments. The Brooklyn-based band seems to bring a bit ofSouthern California to the East Coast with their sound…[East of Here] found its way to my good side…” (7/13/11)
