THE BLACK CROWES ADD SECOND SHOW
IN LOS ANGELES BY OVERWHELMING DEMAND,
AS "KICKING MY HEART AROUND" STORMS RADIO
IN ADVANCE OF THE JANUARY 12 RELEASE
OF THEIR COLUMBIA RECORDS DEBUT ALBUM,
`BY YOUR SIDE'
The buzz continues to build for THE BLACK CROWES.
With tickets scooped up by fans in a matter of seconds for the group's Monday, December 14 show at the Roxy in Los Angeles, a second show has been added by overwhelming demand on Sunday, December 13. Tickets will go on sale Monday, November 30 at the Roxy box office only at 7:00 PM Pacific Time.
On the radio front, the band have stormed airwaves nationwide. The bracing "Kicking My Heart Around"–the first radio track from their upcoming Columbia Records debut album, BY YOUR SIDE, due January 12–has jumped to #3 in only its second week on Billboard's "Mainstream Rock Tracks" chart. Over 200 stations are playing the song, penned by CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON, with many outlets already reporting it as a Top Five request.
The upcoming Roxy shows are part of the band's "Sho' Nuff" warm-up trek of very intimate venues, launching December 1 in Seattle and concluding December 14 in Los Angeles. It's the precursor to the group's full-scale concert tour in 1999.
Overseas, the band have been selling out one gig after another, with critics trumpeting the group's return to turbo-charged, gut-busting rock `n' roll with a collection of first-rate songs.
Of a recent show, England's Mojo magazine raved: "It's that kind of wisdom–that songs are where it's at–that will allow them to continue to grow and surprise. And judging by their shit-eating grins after tonight's set, don't they just know it."
Talking about the new album, CHRIS ROBINSON told England's Kerrang! magazine: "We decided to get back to the directness and the freshness of the first album (1990's SHAKE YOUR MONEY MAKER). The new record is more streamlined, aggressive, blues-based. Less obtuse, you could say." He adds: "It's cool being on Columbia. We're finally on the same label as Bob Dylan, man! And they really respect our work here. That's a good feeling. You know, it's the end of the first decade for this band. There's been a lot of changes, and I guess we're very lucky to still be here. I look around and a lot of the bands that were around when we started just ain't around no more."
