JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES'
"LIVE AT THE GREEK" CD
TEMPORARILY CRASHES MUSICMAKER.COM'S
SERVERS DUE TO OVERWHELMING DEMAND
Musicmaker.com's servers temporarily crashed last night due to unprecedented consumer demand for Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes' "Live At The Greek" CD, released worldwide yesterday on the internet only via Musicmaker.com.
The first day's requests and orders resulted in "Live At The Greek" becoming the largest selling custom CD and paid download in the history of internet music.
Pete Angelus, worldwide manager of The Black Crowes commented that, "We were thrilled by the magical performance given by Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes during the recording of the 'Live at The Greek' CD. The immediacy with which we can get it to the fans via the internet and Musicmaker.com makes this an exciting and unique project. It is inspiring to see the fans take the music business to a new level and rewrite the rules. Their response is amazing."
According to Larry Lieberman, Worldwide Marketing President for Musicmaker.com, "The demand for Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes has exceeded anything we've ever experience before and continues to be significantly beyond our expectations."
The 19 customizable tracks – a mix of newly recorded, classic Led Zeppelin songs and additional vintage blues numbers – were recorded by guitar virtuoso Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes during their sold-out shows at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on October 18 and 19, 1999. This historic compilation–featuring over two hours of music–is not available via traditional retail outlets, but is only found exclusively online at Musicmaker.com.
Fans have the ability to choose what quantity, order and format they want to get their favorite Page-Crowes music. Fans can produce their own personalized Page-Crowes disc by buying only the material they want from a selection of 19 songs, encompassing two hours of music, and customizing their running order in a single CD or double CD depending on how much music the fan selects. A single pre-selected 18-track double CD is also available with a full-color, eight-page booklet and liner notes. Finally, fans can sample music and purchase downloads of individual songs directly to their computer.
