THE BLACK CROWES "GO FASTER"
THAN EVER:
OVERSEAS SUMMER TOUR TO INCLUDE 18 DATES
WITH AEROSMITH AND SPECIAL PERFORMANCE WITH JIMMY PAGE
IN LONDON ON JUNE 27
Kicking off June 10 in Stockholm, the itinerary is a mix of headlining concerts; 18 shows with Aerosmith (with whom THE BLACK CROWES toured in 1990) including a June 26 date at London's Wembley Stadium; a one-off by-invitation-only benefit concert at the 400-capacity Cafe du Paris in London with Jimmy Page on June 27; and a July 30 performance at the prestigious Fuji Festival in Japan.
Page, with whom THE BLACK CROWES toured when they opened for Page/Plant in 1995, personally invited THE BLACK CROWES to perform as the special guest at this show, which will benefit the charity he sponsors: "The ABC (Action for Brazil's Children) Trust." With Page joining them onstage, THE BLACK CROWES will play a mix of their own songs, Page tunes and an array of covers chosen by Page with CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON.
This news comes as THE BLACK CROWES—CHRIS ROBINSON, vocals; RICH ROBINSON, guitars, vocals; STEVE GORMAN, drums; EDDIE HARSCH, keyboards; bassist SVEN PIPIEN; and touring guitarist AUDLEY FREED–are impacting radio with the newly released "Go Faster." Having instantly generated adds at 80 rock stations, it's the third track from their critically acclaimed Columbia Records debut album BY YOUR SIDE. Described by Rolling Stone as a work that's "catchier and hits harder than the band's recent albums," BY YOUR SIDE has already spawned the Top Five rave-up "Kicking My Heart Around" and the Top Ten soul-powered "Only A Fool."
In "Go Faster," CHRIS ROBINSON puts forth the survival spirit and hedonistic bravado of THE BLACK CROWES as only he can: "If you slow down/I will out last ya/But when you're down/You won't find me laughing/Just one question I might ask ya/It might sound like a disaster/Can you make this thing go faster?" On the song, RICH ROBINSON's guitar takes exhilarating new turns. As Vic Garbarini writes in the July `99 issue of Guitar World about RICH's guitar work on BY YOUR SIDE: "Robinson fervently merges the raw intensity of his heroes, AC/DC, with the humongous riffs of Led Zeppelin and the sonic subtleties of Jeff Beck, as well as those ringing, Stonesian open-tuning riffs. Along with brother Chris, he's extending and refining rather than merely copying the epic blues rock and r&b of the late Sixties and Seventies."
All this excitement coincides with the huge exposure THE BLACK CROWES have been receiving with their VH1 "Behind The Music" special, which debuted May 9. It's an extremely gripping and controversial look at the band, a one-hour expose' of their bouts with drugs, divorce, departures and lawsuits and their triumph over these bumps in the road.
What to expect on the road this summer with THE BLACK CROWES? As recently noted by Steve Morse in the Boston Globe: "…you know that the Crowes are going to speak their mind, crank up the decibels, and remind people that gritty, dirty-sounding rock `n' roll is the only way to go. Raggedly glorious, recklessly impetuous, and an absolute must-see if you love the medium."
Once their overseas dates conclude, THE BLACK CROWES will make their return again to the States with an array of headlining dates in major cities starting in September. Stay tuned for an announcement.
