THE BLACK CROWES SET TO HIT RADIO
NOVEMBER 2 WITH A NEW TRACK,
"KICKING MY HEART AROUND,"
WHILE BAND DECIDE TO HOLD BACK NEW ALBUM
UNTIL JANUARY 12
Two pieces of news have emerged from THE BLACK CROWES' camp.
First, the band–CHRIS ROBINSON, vocals; RICH ROBINSON, guitars, vocals; STEVE GORMAN, drums; EDDIE HARSCH, keyboards; and bassist SVEN PIPIEN–will release a new track to radio on November 2. Titled "Kicking My Heart Around," it's an angry song about a busted-up romance with an awe-inspiring slide guitar rave-up by RICH and a sizzling harmonica solo by CHRIS. The song is from their upcoming Columbia Records debut album BY YOUR SIDE, which will now be released on January 12, not November 17, as originally reported.
Turns out that the guys informed Columbia Records–which was already revved up and set to release the album–of their decision to hold back the album until early next year. When the band recently went into the studio to put finishing touches on songs already recorded for the album, they decided to let the tape roll and lay down new songs that CHRIS and RICH recently wrote on the road during their "Sho' Nuff" warm-up trek of very intimate venues. These new tracks turned out so powerfully that the band wanted to present them on the upcoming album (with some of the previously recorded songs to serve as B-sides in the future).
According to THE BLACK CROWES' management, Columbia Records was somewhat disappointed not to be able to release the album in late November in the midst of the busy holiday season, but the label is standing behind the band's artistic spirit and vision.
Says CHRIS, "While we've been on the road, it's like the floodgates completely opened. RICH and I kept coming up with new songs and we felt they needed a place on the new album." Says RICH, "It's cool that Columbia Records is backing us on an artistic level and they're being open to all the hassles that come with moving an album into the new year. I know we're driving them insane with these last-minute changes, but we know it's all for the right reasons."
Not wanting to keep fans hanging any longer, Columbia Records on November 2 will release to radio the track "Kicking My Heart Around," which has been a highlight of the band's recent gigs. It's a song that underlines that BY YOUR SIDE is one serious kick-ass, funky, riff-a-rama rock `n' roll record.
