THE BLACK CROWES JOIN FORCES ONSTAGE IN LONDON
FOR FULL SET WITH JIMMY PAGE;
KEYBOARDIST EDDIE HAWRYSCH RECUPERATING
AFTER BEING HOSPITALIZED
THE BLACK CROWES performed a full set last night (Sunday, June 27) with Jimmy Page at the 400-capacity Cafe du Paris in London–a mix of songs by THE BLACK CROWES and Led Zeppelin, plus some classic covers.
The invitation-only event was held to benefit two charities with which Page is affiliated: SCREAM (Supporting Children through Re-Education And Music) and The ABC (Action for Brazil's Children) Trust. THE BLACK CROWES and Page closed the show with a version of Led Zeppelin's "You Shook Me" with the help of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Thousands of fans crowded outside the club for hours in the hope of getting an earful of the excitement happening inside.
Here's the full set list from a show that was described by observants as "magical and intense": "Shake Your Money Maker" (THE BLACK CROWES), "Sloppy Drunk" (Jimmy Rodgers), "Woke Up This Morning" (B.B. King), "In My Time Of Dying" (Led Zeppelin), "Oh Well" (Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac), "Whole Lotta Love" and "You Shook Me" (Led Zeppelin). On hand in the crowd: Queen's Roger Taylor, Alice Cooper and John McEnroe.
Meanwhile THE BLACK CROWES' keyboardist EDDIE HAWRYSCH was released from the hospital today and was taken to the band's hotel in Brussels to recuperate from his surgery. Although he won't be onstage with his bandmates in Brussels tonight, EDDIE will be traveling with the band until he is well enough to start performing again. THE BLACK CROWES are hopeful that EDDIE will be able to rejoin the band onstage in the near future.
HAWRYSCH was sidelined after a gig in Cologne, Germany last Thursday (June 24) and was taken to a hospital in Laige, Belgium for surgery that corrected a twisted intestine. As a result, he missed the band's Wembley Stadium gig (with Aerosmith) in front of 60,000 fans. Although it marked THE BLACK CROWES' first performance without him in nine years, they honored him by setting up his keyboards onstage accompanied by a six-foot inflatable green alien in his place.
The green alien will take EDDIE's place until he is able to return to the stage on his own.
THE BLACK CROWES will tour Europe through July 25 before playing July 30 in Japan at the Fuji Rock Festival. The band are touring in connection with their critically acclaimed Columbia debut album BY YOUR SIDE. It features the newly released single "Go Faster," which follows the Top Five success of "Kicking My Heart Around" and Top Ten showing of "Only A Fool."
