THE BLACK CROWES
TO KICK OFF 'LISTEN MASSIVE' TOUR AUGUST 25;
SHOWS TO FEATURE OVER TWO HOURS OF BLACK CROWES MUSIC
AND OPENING ACT BEACHWOOD SPARKS
"The band's live show remains one of the most passionate in rock…" –Isaac Guzman New York Daily News (6/9/01)
As THE BLACK CROWES close in on the Top 10 of the rock chart with "Soul Singing" from their LIONS album (V2 Music)-the track is at #12 this week, with the video in Large Rotation on VH1-the band have announced a two-month headlining trek across America on the heels of their triumphant European/Japanese tour.
Featuring over two hours of BLACK CROWES music at every show, the "Listen Massive" tour launches August 25 in Green Bay, WI and will wrap up in late October. "Listen Massive" will include a stop at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre (9/11) and three sold-out shows at New York City's Beacon Theatre (9/20-22). The group–guitarist RICH ROBINSON, singer CHRIS ROBINSON, drummer STEVE GORMAN, keyboardist EDDIE HARSCH, guitarist AUDLEY FREED and bassist ANDY HESS–have invited the critically acclaimed Los Angeles-based Beachwood Sparks to open all the shows.
In a recent interview with Guitar World magazine, the outspoken RICH ROBINSON said, "I know there are kids out there who still care about music. But as far as how the music is sold to people, it's just become a service industry. People write music for the masses, and you can't really do that. Music is a very personal thing. The minute you try to second guess what two or three million people are gonna like, you're fucked. And you put out crap music."
With LIONS, THE BLACK CROWES, in the words of A.D. Amorosi in his 5/25/01 Philadelphia Inquirer review, "shake loose their money maker sound, opening doors to Technicolor sonic underpinnings that turn their greasy black rock into a rainbow of expressionist colors. The psychedelic-gospel ambience that surrounds 'Midnight From The Inside Out' and 'Ozone Mama' help make Lions the band's most satisfying and cohesive full length." For his part, RICH ROBINSON says, "People ask us what kind of music we play…Now we say we play Black Crowes music. To get even more general than that, it's soul music-which doesn't necessarily mean it's R&B, it's just music from and for the soul."
As is customary for THE BLACK CROWES, they will vary set lists nightly, keeping things fresh and unpredictable, performing their classics, fan-favorite selections and rarities. Check out the group's website at www.theblackcrowes.com , where set lists are immediately posted after every show.
