CONFIRM FALL TOUR DATES IN SUPPORT OF DEBUT RELEASE
‘BEND TO BREAK’
OUT TODAY VIA EQUAL VISION RECORDS
PRINCIPLE BAND MEMBER FRED MASCHERINO ANNOUNCES
DEPARTURE FROM TAKING BACK SUNDAY
On the heels of the release of their accomplished and conscience-invading debut BEND TO BREAK, THE COLOR FRED has announced new fall tour dates with Straylight Run. Led by vocalist FRED MASCHERINO–who wrote the songs and played the guitars and bass on the album–the touring band includes album contributors P.J. Bond (bass) and Steve Curtiss (drums). BEND TO BREAK was released today on Equal Vision Records and–in keeping with MASCHERINO’s “green” lifestyle–includes a CD case made of 80% recycled cardboard and booklet made of 100% recycled material, with an inlay tray made of biodegradable cornstarch.
Of the new album, Glenn Gamboa has noted in NEWSDAY that “…FRED MASCHERINO's new band hits the ground running with the power-pop debut Bend to Break. The live show will likely be just as hard-hitting (10/18/07).” THE COLOR FRED also received a boost in attention as the “Featured Artist” on MySpace.com’s front page leading up to the release.
The video for the album’s first single, the consequence-fixated “If I Surrender,” was shot at MASCHERINO’s residence in New Jersey. Helmed by director Andrew Bowser (Gym Class Heroes), the video is an homage to a few of Mascherino’s favorite movies–it has him living a Groundhog’s Day meets The Royal Tennenbaums day over and over again.
MASCHERINO is best known for his work in Long Island’s Taking Back Sunday, where he became a key member as lead guitarist, co-vocalist and co-songwriter after he joined the band in 2003. After two gold-certified albums with Taking Back Sunday, Fred announced his departure from the band in early October. In an interview with MTV.COM, he states: “…I have parted ways with Taking Back Sunday. I felt like during the time we were together, we made some great music together, but it was getting to the point where I felt I had taken the road as long as I possibly could. (10/4/07)" He continues, "I'm fully aware of the risk, but I grew up with nothing, and when I was in ninth grade, I said 'All I want to do is play guitar for the rest of my life.' So as long as I can play guitar, I'm happy.”
