THE RANDIES
ANNOUNCE “CALLING L.A.”
MINI-TOUR OF LOS ANGELES
COVERING SIX AREA CODES
It’s often noted that Los Angeles is “spread-out.”
Well, THE RANDIES–the Los Angeles-based group who are building a buzz for their mix of straight-ahead rock, ultra-sweet harmonies and grrrl punk bravado–are about to drive that observation home. They’ve named their upcoming mini-tour “Calling L.A.” since it will cover six local area codes from February 16 through March 25.
Goldfingers, Hollywood (323)
Old Town Pub, Pasadena (626)
The Echo, Silverlake (323)
Tremors, Riverside (909)
14 Below, Santa Monica (310)
Blue Café, Long Beach (562)
Tsunami Benefit at UCLA (310)
Mr. T’s Bowl, Highland Park (323)
The Troubadour, West Hollywood (310)
The Echo, Silverlake (323)
Marlin Bar, Huntington Beach (714)
Noticeably absent from the “Calling L.A.” mini-tour in support of their debut album AT THE FRIENDSHIP MOTOR INN are the 818 and 213 area codes. But this isn’t, say THE RANDIES, “a diss to our fans who live there. We’re trying to come up with ideas for some fun gigs. Who knows, maybe we’ll play at a gas station downtown or in the parking lot of a motor inn somewhere deep in the Valley.”
Set for wide release in March, AT THE FRIENDSHIP MOTOR INN (Elicit Records/MRI) was recently lauded by the Los Angeles Times, with Kevin Bronson noting that: “The L.A. quartet delivers its pop punk with a wink and a shredded guitar riff. On their debut At The Friendship Motor Inn, The Randies channel a few decades of punky female-fronted bands, from the Runaways to The Muffs. There are songs about boys, relationships and more boys. And a paean to Kevin Bacon. They pull it off with flair” (11/14/04).
And the band delivers live. Paul Rogers, writing in the LA Weekly had this to say “…strands of melody conversing, meshing and overlapping like trains of thought…punkish Blondie/Runaways panache and a knowing self-confidence in delivery” (11/05/04).
After the “Calling L.A.” dates, THE RANDIES–SIENNA DEGOVIA (lead vocals, bass), LAURA CATALDO (guitars, backing vocals), MEGAN McCARTER (guitars, backing vocals) and KELLY CAIRNS (drums)–will head north for more shows, and area codes, in California.
