THE RANDIES
GARNER LA WEEKLY MUSIC AWARD NOMINATION FOR
"BEST POP/ROCK BAND";
AWARDS CEREMONY TO TAKE PLACE JUNE 14
AT THE HENRY FONDA THEATER
BAND TO PERFORM LIVE ON
"LATV LIVE"
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8 AT 9:00 PM PACIFIC
Los Angeles’ resident pop-punkers THE RANDIES–who merge straight-ahead rock and sweet pop harmonies with elements of punk–have been nominated for an LA Weekly Music Award for "Best Pop/Rock Band." Los Angeles punk legends X will headline the annual LA Weekly Music Awards June 14 at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood.
On Wednesday, June 8, THE RANDIES–SIENNA DEGOVIA (lead vocals/bass), LAURA CATALDO (guitars/backing vocals), MEGAN McCARTER (guitars/backing vocals) and KELLY CAIRNS (drums)–will perform live on "LATV LIVE" (for local listings log onto: www.latv.com/coverage). This summer, THE RANDIES are set to join the Vans Warped Tour for both the July 4 show in Fresno at SaveMart Center and the July 6 date in Pomona at the Pomona Fairplex.
In other news, THE RANDIES’ brash debut AT THE FRIENDSHIP MOTOR INN (Elicit Records/MRI) and explosive live show continue to garner praise from the media. "[At The Friendship Motor Inn]…is vivacious, vivid and shimmering with uncut songcraft" (LA Weekly, 5/19/05). "Gorgeously executed three-way harmonies and brain-staining melodies, blurred with punky buzz, fuzz and irreverence," continues writer Paul Rogers in his LA Weekly feature (5/19/05).
Here’s what other critics had to say:
"Their debut album, At The Friendship Motor Inn, crisply captures their Happy Days optimism and adroit arrangements, pumped with punky impudence and new-wave smarty-pants charm, but only in concert does the Randies’ unfettered joy translate: guitarist Laura Cataldo’s knowing, in-joke grin; bass-slinging vocalist Sienna DeGovia’s feline, faux-sulky swagger and crystal-meth Chrissie Hynde-isms; and new-ish drummer Kelly Cairns’ delightfully purposeful pounding."
–Paul Rogers, LA WEEKLY, March 4, 2005
"The L.A. quartet delivers its pop punk with a wink and a shredded guitar riff. On their debut At The Friendship Motor Inn, The Randies channel a few decades of punky female-fronted bands, from the Runaways to The Muffs. There are songs about boys, relationships and more boys. And a paean to Kevin Bacon. They pull it off with flair."
–Kevin Bronson, LOS ANGELES TIMES, November 14, 2004
"Creativity and talent flows through the veins of Los Angeles based The Randies, who are touring in support of their At The Friendship Motor In release, the group offers up perky, punk tunes from a girl’s perspective."
–Michelle Mills, PASADENA STAR NEWS, March 4, 2005
"The latest reinvention of the rock n’ roll wheel can be heard through the amps of Southern California foursome, The Randies. The band’s most recent release At The Friendship Motor Inn is a brilliantly produced 12-song effort that captures the band’s bright harmonies and big guitar pop/rock sound. After one listen to At The Friendship Motor Inn, it was nearly impossible not to be swept up in the energy and tongue in cheek vibe of The Randies."
–Dan Brown, WOMANROCK, April 2005
"The Randies bring their music to another level with a driving, upbeat and melodic sound. They have incorporated elements of country, rock and punk. The group features a unique blend of harmonizing vocals, walls of guitar and loud drums which is reminiscent of the combination of the Runaways and Blondie, the Ramones and the Pixies."
–Randy Cohen, ROCK PUBLICATION (live review), April 7, 2005
