THIS JUST IN: ALANIS MORISSETTE‘s SUPPOSED FORMER INFATUATION JUNKIE was just honored in Toronto with the prestigious “Best Album” award at the Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys), while the album’s “So Pure” video–which she directed–earned her the Juno for “Best Video.” ALANIS was on hand to accept her awards at the March 12 ceremony, where she also presented Sarah McLachlan with the “International Achievement” award. Next stop for ALANIS: New York City, where she’ll make her stage debut, alongside actresses Shirley Knight and Andrea Martin, in “The Vagina Monologues” at the Westside Theatre, from March 21 through April 2. The provocative play–which the New York Times has called “a bona fide phenomenon”–is based on author Eve Ensler’s interviews with a diverse group of women. In other news, ALANIS is anticipated to return to the recording studio this summer to record a new album, with a projected release date of early 2001 on Maverick Recording Co. The new album will be the studio follow-up to ALANIS‘ SUPPOSED FORMER INFATUATION JUNKIE–which garnered critical acclaim while selling over seven-million copies worldwide–and her current two million-selling MTV UNPLUGGED album.
