TODDLA T
NEW ALBUM ‘WATCH ME DANCE’
DUE OUT SEPTEMBER 13 ON NINJA TUNE
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR UPDATE
“STREETS SO WARM” DUE OUT OCTOBER 17
“…one of the UK’s most esteemed production auteurs…
it finds Toddla T cementing an identity as a producer –
10 years from now, it might be seen as an important stepping stone to greatness.”
NME
With the September 13 release date for WATCH ME DANCE via Ninja Tune from U.K. producer TODDLA T drawing near, comes news of additional U.S. tour dates next month. The trek will now take TODDLA to Denver and Portland in addition to the previously announced dates across the U.S., including stops in Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and Canada with shows in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.
Meanwhile, Ninja Tune has announced that the third single from the album—“Streets So Warm” featuring Jamaican dancehall artist Wayne Marshall—will be released October 17 with remixes by Zed Bias, Serial Killaz and Ross Orton & Pipes. The video, beautifully shot in black & white, takes TODDLA and Marshall through the streets of Kingston and is directed by Rollo Jackson, who also collaborated with TODDLA T on WATCH ME DANCE’s first two singles—“Take It Back” and the album’s title track—as well as the documentary “Always Moving.”
With WATCH ME DANCE, his second artist album following 2009’s Skanky Skanky, TODDLA T (aka Tom Bell) has created a dubwise, street-soul masterpiece featuring collaborations with Roots Manuva, fellow DJ, producer and remixer Skream, Ms Dynamite, Ross Orton, Wayne Marshall, Donaeo, Roisin Murphy and Shola Ama. The album, already available in the U.K., has been garnering solid critical acclaim with the press:
“The next big crossover star of British dance music…”
The Independent
“No doubt, this is the record to get Toddla T into the charts.”
The Fly
“Sophomore album Watch Me Dance is a by-the-book collection of eclectic throwbacks, hitting all the right sounds in a non-superficial fashion…”
Pitchfork
“Watch Me Dance is definitely a club album, but on a different frequency. A frequency much more sensual, relaxed, eclectic and for any time of the day.”
PlayGroundMag.com
“Watch Me Dance is a grown and sexy sequel which Toddla has described as ‘a record for clubbers but it’s the one they’ll listen to at home with their mates’. The sophomore effort recorded between Sheffield, London and Kingston is a slight detour for the London-based selecta who has sprinkled seminal sound bites, yet, still managed to retain a stellar, supporting cast from the underground.”
The Line Of Best Fit
“Yes. Just yes. This album has got so many future bangers.” *****
(Album of the Month)
RWD
“An impressively well-balanced neatly structured journey of an album…”
(Album of the week)
Time Out London
“Rambunctious, immensely likeable energy…”
Metro
“Toddla T is onto a winner here.”
Loud & Quiet 8/10
“…reveals Tom Bell as a grandmaster of the studio.”
Artrocker
“Sustains a tone of boisterous warmth … winningly approachable”
The Word
“Toddla has Jamaican culture coming out of his pores.”
Uncut
“Right now, this album is necessary.”
BBC Music Online
“Watch Me Dance is never less than brilliant company.”
eMusic.com
“Toddla T's big and bountiful follow-up depicts UK street culture at its most warm, colorful and positive.”
Drowned In Sound 8/10
