BAND LAUNCHES HEADLINING U.S. TOUR MARCH 28 IN PROVIDENCE, RI
TYPE O NEGATIVE have entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at #27 with DEAD AGAIN (SPV Records), selling over 22,000 copies in its first week of release. At the same time, the album’s lead single is now impacting radio. “The Profits Of Doom” was #1 Most Added on the CMJ Loud Rock and FMQB Metal Detector charts this week.
In other news, the Brooklyn-based goth rock icons are set to hit the road March 28 in Providence, RI for a headlining U.S. tour. The trek includes an April 20 stop at the Avalon in Los Angeles as well as a May 8 show at New York City’s Irving Plaza.
With DEAD AGAIN, TYPE O NEGATIVE–PETER STEELE (vocals, bass), JOSH SILVER (keyboards), KENNY HICKEY (guitar), JOHNNY KELLY (drums)–have truly raised the bar. It’s arguably the group’s most ambitious record yet, teeming with fury, sorrow and darkness and delivered with a broader sound palette that’s neither contrived nor cloying. Here’s a sample of the disc’s early critical acclaim:
“The Brooklyn, NY quartet have taken the art of metal songwriting to epic heights since their inception in 1990, and don't stray far from their proven formula on new release Dead Again…the long-under appreciated depth of Type O Negative's craft is, once again, prominently displayed, offering a poignant blend of brooding Black Sabbath dirges and unearthly metallic crunch, acerbic New York City attitude, and Peter Steele's droning vocals and lyrical black humor. The dissident elements meld seamlessly, at times even brilliantly…Type O Negative have conjured an alliance of subtle pop aesthetics and crushing metallic majesty.”
–Paul Gargano, LIVEDAILY.COM, March 19, 2007
“The Brooklyn-based goth metal quartet return with their seventh studio offering entitled Dead Again which, much like their earlier releases, draws inspiration from late 60s and 70s rock, blending ethereal, lush melodies, gloomy doomy dirges and sarcastically morbid lyrics into sonic madness.”
–Valerie Angela Ciliento, METAL EDGE, March 2007
“The songs on Dead Again are truly epic, with many tracks over 7 minutes and one song that's over 14 minutes long. Type O Negative are a very versatile band. On this album some songs are slow, gothic dirges; others doomy, sludgy and midtempo; and a couple are faster with a punk/thrash vibe…Dead Again is a very ambitious undertaking, and it succeeds…Type O Negative seems rejuvenated with this album, one of their best in many years.”
–Chad Bowar, ABOUT.COM, March 2007
“Dead Again is a loud, throbbing, rip-your-scabs-off record. It has an invasive quality that goes into your ear and enters your bloodstream like an anti-coagulant, and is a preventative for the sluggish and stopped up.”
–Charlie Steffens, KNAC.COM, March 9, 2007
