Valley of the Jagged Little Pills: “Death of Cinderella,” “King of Intimidation” and “No Pressure Over Cappuccino” are three newly written songs ALANIS MORISSETTE is introducing to audiences on her ongoing tour, a new leg of which was launched January 3 in San Diego, CA. Other highlights on the trek (which includes three sold-out shows at Roseland in New York City February 6-8) are the haunting acoustic version of “Your House,” the uncredited bonus track on her Jagged Little Pill CD (Maverick), and her cover of Radioheads “Fake Plastic Trees.”
In the midst of all this road excitement, MORISSETTE is continuing to earn vast critical acclaim. She was voted #2 Artist of the Year in the Rolling Stone Critics Poll, while the readers of the magazine called her the #1 Best New Female Singer. Over at the Los Angeles Times, Jagged Little Pill was voted #2 album of the year in the Critics Poll. Morissette also earned six Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year (“You Oughta Know”). “I’m appreciative of this kind of acknowledgment and respect,” said Morissette of the Grammy nominations. “It feels good to know that my songs have affected people along the way. Thanks.”
JAGGED LITTLE PILL has sold over five million copies in the U.S. since its June ’95 release, and another million overseas. For the 21-year-old singer and songwriter, the road continues to be home; it’s not only where she’s strengthening her bond with her audiences, but it’s the place where she’s writing new songs. “Im very excited about what is happening in music these days,” she recently told the Los Angeles Times. “…A lot of artists, many of whom happen to be women, are trying to express their feelings with complete honesty and without apology. You might say they are just trying to be human.” Where to catch Morissette next? Check the attached itinerary…
