From song play on Rodney Bingenheimer’s ‘Rodney On The Roq’ KROQ FM radio show to an upcoming national tour with VNV Nation, the invasion continues as WAR TAPES make their national television debut on ABC Family’s series “Greek” this Monday, June 15. During the show, which will air from 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm ET, the Los Angeles foursome will be featured performing two songs–“Always Falling” and “Dreaming Of You”–as the band at a frat party. In addition, War Tapes will host a “Greek” online viewing party Friday, June 19 at 5:00 pm PT/8:00 pm ET on www.ABCFamily.com.
In other news, WAR TAPES have unveiled a new video for their single “Dreaming Of You.” Jon Danovic, who also directed the “Mind Is Ugly” video for the band, simply captures WAR TAPES’ performing against a crisp background that’s layered with visually stunning graphics. Check out the video here:

WAR TAPES–Neil Popkin (singer/rhythm guitar), his sister Becca Popkin (bass), Matt Bennett (lead guitar) and William Mohler (drums)–have an innate knack for crafting timeless melodies, anthemic choruses and an arena-ready sound as found on their debut THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE, out now on Seattle’s Sarathan Records. Early buzz on War Tapes earned the band airplay on such tastemaker radio stations as BBC Radio 1 and Live 105 in San Francisco, while “Mind Is Ugly” was aired on MTV’s “The Hills” and “Dreaming of You” on NBC’s “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly.” War Tapes can also be found on the upcoming Love & Rockets tribute album New Tales To Tell (Justice Records) performing a cover of “Love Me.” Meanwhile, check out these recent reviews from:
Outburn magazine (Issue #49):
Emotional Doom Pop: “The most immediately striking thing about War Tapes is the fact that they are fronted by an emotionally driven crooner in the form of Neil Popkin, a singer who finds a way to capture the charisma and enigmatic pragmatism of male diva’s like Morrissey and Richard Butler. The post-punk walls of guitar that surround the depressive tales are created by Popkin and his compeer Matt Bennett, as new wave meets shoegaze on top of controlled chaos and despair. The Continental Divide is an album that sounds familiar yet it’s not. The tracks have a creeping effect, being enveloped in melody and darkness while building to soaring crescendos that are placated by intricate strings and thick bass atmospheres. War Tapes is rounded out by angelic waves of shattered soul harmony brought on by Popkin’s sister Becca, who also provides a solid bass backbone rhythm section for her male counterparts. Four of the tracks on The Continental Divide were previously found on their self-titled EP that was released last year, but have now been remixed to sound clearer and more dynamic to match the overall feel of this debut full-length. At times epic, often times deeply romantic and entirely captivating, War Tapes has released an endearing piece of melancholy and bravado.” 9/10 ~Joseph Graham
Berkeley Place (http://www.berkeleyplaceblog.com/2009/06/09/war-tapes-the-continental-divide/):
"War Tapes busted out a solid EP last year, showing their skills at a gloomy version of dreampop, and now they’ve released their full-length debut. The Continental Divide is a solid, very Los Angeles effort–it’s got the hip-and-coolness of Southern California, but lacks any Tex-Mex influence whatsoever. Think Joy Division/New Order. Very male, too smart to be emo, too mature to appeal to the young girlie set, and too upbeat to be Goth. Though all those constituents will likely find some things they enjoy about the album. The nice thing about the record is it doesn’t sit still. Although much of it has the afore-described deep and dreamy sound, there are other songs that show raw edges and unclean, frayed threads. This is what prevents the album from being dull, or from being overmuch like so many other bands today who use this same sound."
