Marking the pinnacle of the Los Angeles summer music festival this year, HARD SUMMER welcomed over 50,000 fans this past weekend (August 3-4, 2012) at the Los Angeles State Historic Park for the event’s fifth annual installment. Expanding to a two-day event for the first time, HARD SUMMER—the largest ticketed music festival in the city of Los Angeles—proved to be one of the year’s most stellar celebrations featuring high-octane performances from Skrillex, Bloc Party, Miike Snow (Live), Boys Noize, Bloody Beetroots (DJ set), NERO (Live), Magnetic Man, Squarepusher, James Murphy, Little Dragon and many more.
Check out what the press is saying about HARD SUMMER:
“…just outside of the city’s downtown, Hard Summer expanded to two days for the first time, growing from a party into a full-on festival. [Gary] Richards stuck to the ethos that has guided his bookings since his first event in 2007: That electronic music should be heavy, aggressive and relentless, with an attitude that’s more punk rock than peace and love.”
– Daniel Siegal, RollingStone.com 8/5/12
“For two nights, a broad swath of green parkland in Los Angeles’ Chinatown was converted into EDM Valhalla. The city’s fifth HARD Summer Music Festival was a smashing success, and a blur of bright lights, outrageous outfits, brilliant stage productions, and unapologetically heavy electronic music…Headlined by Skrillex, Boys Noize, Bloc Party, and Nero, the beat-based bacchanal leaned heavy on dubstep American-style, with notable detours for the occasional rock band or rapper with enough moxie to throw their hat into the heaving, bass-addled ring.”
– Chris Martins, SPIN.com 8/6/12
“…the hard, fast and oblivious strains of music that young people have loved since time immemorial while sneaking in nods to the transformative possibilities of dance music.”
– August Brown, Los Angeles Times 8/6/12
“Friday night at the Los Angeles Historic Park, HARD Summer kicked-off its annual electronic dance music festival filled with banging DJ sets and some epic band gigs. The festival, now expanded to two days, celebrates some of the biggest names in dance music, dubstep and electro while glorifying the old-school house heads and giving 18-and-over kids something to look forward to.”
– Alejandra Loera, OCWeekly.com 8/4/12
