2013 is going to be a busy year for STS9. In addition to their headlining Winter Tour for February and March—their first month-long coast to coast outing in over two years—the instrumental electronic rock band, hailed as “one of the country’s most intriguing, innovative outfits around” by XLR8R, has just announced a new run of dates for April along with various festival appearances. STS9 is also currently in the studio working on a brand new album to be released later this year.
Kicking off April 11 in Minneapolis, the new tour dates will bring STS9 east, stopping in such cities as Madison, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Syracuse before hitting New York City Saturday, April 20 at Roseland Ballroom. The 15-date run will then hit the Southeast with shows in Richmond, Wilmington, Savannah, Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale before wrapping April 27 in St. Petersburg.
These new spring shows will come on the heels of the group’s upcoming 25-date Winter Tour that starts February 21 in Portland, OR and features back-to-back shows in numerous markets including Lawrence, KS, Chicago, Athens and Asheville. Support acts for the Winter Tour have also just been revealed. For the shows in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California (including Portland, Seattle, Eugene and Chico), STS9 will be joined by Russ Liquid, and when the group hits Lake Tahoe, Oakland and Los Angeles (Saturday, March 2 at The Palladium), Tycho will be the support act. Nashville buzz artist Cherub will open the shows in Tulsa and Dallas, Project Aspect and Raw Russ will split nights for the two Lawrence, KS shows and Maserati will help support their Midwest shows in St. Louis, Milwaukee and Chicago, where they will be performing at the Congress Theater on March 16 and then an already sold-out House of Blues show March 17. To close out the tour, Minnesota will be the support act when STS9 hit the South for shows in Charleston and sold out back-to-back nights in both Athens and Asheville. See below for full tour dates.
In addition to their own headlining shows, STS9 is also set to perform at various music festivals throughout the U.S. including headlining slots at the BUKU Music + Art Project in New Orleans March 9 (where they’ll perform 2 sets) and the Snowball Music Festival in Winter Park, CO March 10. STS9 will also make main stage appearances at the Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, IL and the Wakarusa Music Festival in Ozark, AR this spring.
STS9—Hunter Brown (guitar/keys), Jeffree Lerner (percussion), David Murphy (bass/synths), David Phipps (keyboards) and Zach Velmer (drums)—are currently in the studio working on their 12th album, set for release later this year on their self-owned record label, 1320 Records. Their latest studio EP, When The Dust Settles, was released in 2011 and debuted at #1 on the iTunes Electronic Chart and landed them in Billboard’s Top 25 album chart.

About STS9:
Formed in Atlanta over a decade ago, instrumental electronic rock band SOUND TRIBE SECTOR 9 (STS9) has risen to the forefront of the international music scene. Consistently ranked among Pollstar magazine’s list of top-grossing touring acts, STS9 boasts a genre-defying list of opening acts along the way including Snoop Dogg, Ghostland Observatory, Bassnectar, Thievery Corporation, Pretty Lights, Big Boi of Outkast and countless others. The now Santa Cruz-based quintet has sold out the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado; performed at Ultra Music Festival, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Coachella and Electric Daisy Carnival among many other top festivals; sold out shows across the country as an acoustic set-up in opera houses or as an electronic act in amphitheatres; performed with Jay-Z in arenas; and have raised significant amounts of money towards activism efforts (including $150,000 to the Make It Right Foundation, paving the way to rebuild a house in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans). STS9 also run their own record label, 1320 Records, whose goal is to bring the music to the people in the most conscious, unique, innovative and savvy ways possible to lessen the distance between artists and fans.
