TIME WARP US
CONCLUDES ITS SECOND ANNUAL NORTH AMERICAN EVENT
OVER 10,000 FANS FROM MORE THAN 35 COUNTRIES
ATTEND THE TWO-DAY TECHNO AFFAIR IN NYC NOVEMBER 20 & 21
On Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21, Germany’s long-running techno staple TIME WARP returned to U.S. shores for its second annual event in North America. The event took over two floors of the 39th Street Pier in Brooklyn, drawing over 10,000 fans over the weekend from more than 35 different countries.
Ticketholders were privy to a line-up stacked with a variety of the world’s top-tier legends like Ricardo Villalobos (his first stateside appearance since 2011) Sven Väth and Chris Liebing, as well as rising artists such as Black Coffee and a special appearace with Jamie Jones b2b Seth Troxler, plus Vanjee, Nadav Vee and Shahar who performed a three-way back-to-back set. The complete line-up follows below.
The festival’s famously elaborate production was also a highlight. Over the years, the global event has become well-known as the meeting place between a festival and warehouse party, and TIME WARP has built its reputation by fusing dark, dancefloor-aligned techno with visceral custom stage production and lighting. This year was no exception as event organizers built out a custom setting they call ‘Cave 2.0,’ turning the first floor of the 39th Street Pier warehouse in to a giant cavern, designed and transported direct from Mannheim, the home of TIME WARP.
“We want to thank all the fans that came out event from very far away to this second edition of Time Warp US,” said Robin Ebinger, Head of Marketing of Cosmopop who along with ID&T North America and TCE were partners in the festival. “We are also happy about the seamless and most constructive cooperation with our new partner ID&T as well as TCE.”
Look for TIME WARP US to return in 2016.
TIME WARP US in the press:
“The festival, presented by the German promoters Cosmopop, emphasizes grittier, subtler music that is often in debt to 1980s and early-’90s Chicago house and Detroit techno, rather than the hits and careening bass drops of stadium E.D.M. And its headliners include an intergenerational bunch of longstanding underground house and techno D.J. favorites, such as Sven Väth, Luciano and, playing back to back for four hours, Seth Troxler and Jamie Jones. All promise a weekend of dance music that moves away from the bleating stadium norm.”
– Michaelangeo Matos, New York Times 11/19/2015
“When Julia Govor moved to New York three years ago, her reasoning was simple. “Love,” she answers on a recent video call. She repeats the word: ‘Love.’…This weekend, she plays Time Warp U.S. at the 39th Street Pier, joining an heavy-hitting line-up that includes Seth Troxler, Sven Väth and a rare Stateside appearance from Ricardo Villalobos.”
– Liz Ohanesian, Village Voice 11/21/15
“The massive warehouse venue was spectacular. Two huge stages were split by an expansive lobby where attendees could store their belongings or access the bottle service sections. Thousands of people filled the cavernous spaces and yet the sound was excellent no matter where you stood. In the main room, camouflage netting hung across the ceiling, which was covered in spotlights and pulsed liked an alien beehive. Behind the DJ, a cinema-sized LED screen flashed with intricate visuals. The venue’s second room, Floor 2, shot lasers across the room in elaborate grids.”
– James William, Resident Advisor (11/24/15)
“For the second year, techno giants threw down at the beloved Brooklyn warehouse located at the 39th Street Pier. With little artificial glamour, no gimmicks and some of the world’s best house and techno DJs, this festival truly exists for the sophisticated dance music fan.”
– Mixmag (11/25/15)
“Plans were big, production-wise: Among other things, the team would install its Cave 2.0, a set-up which promised to transform the space ‘from a cavernous ice cave to a menacing inferno, depending on the colors and rhythms of more than 400 lamps and lasers,’ according to [Robin] Ebinger. …look at the lineup, which boasts Väth (who’s something of an international ambassador for the Time Warp brand), Luciano, Black Coffee, Tale of Us, Apollonia, Thugfucker, Recondite, Chris Liebing and a tag-teaming Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler, among many others. And in something of a coup, Time Warp has cajoled Ricardo Villalobos,…into joining in on the fun.”
– Bruce Tantum, XLR8R (11/17/15)
“Time Warp US remains a welcome addition to the New York party calendar. The energy from the crowd on both nights and the pristine production made for a positive weekend. ”
– Brittany Gaston, Beatport (11/23/15)
“This year, the ID&T and TCE team worked tirelessly to further impress the techno-heads from around the world who travelled in droves to party all night long with the genre’s finest talent. Boasting two rooms-the cavernous Cave 2.0 and a laser-filled Floor 2-and two nights, Time Warp US 2015 solidified its place amongst the crowded NYC event scene. With its impeccable lineup and staggering visual production, Time Warp US represented the perfect marriage of music and technology.”
– Chris Caruso, DJ TIMES 11/24/15
“From the delightfully plain exterior to the inviting black dance floor decor, Cosmopop’s rendition of a good old fashioned warehouse party is just what the dance doctors ordered for the Big Apple’s blossoming electronic scene. ..techno deities took the stage one after another to deliver two nights of raw four on the floor electronic bliss. From Troxler and Jones’ marathon set of soulful, jackin house to Sven’s driving mix of European bliss fans were stunned by the lineup of mainly imports. Personal favorite Black Coffee shook the massive warehouse with a grueling blend of distorted deep house and techno.”
– Stoney Roads 11/24/15
“Undoubtedly, the most anticipated set at Time Warp NY was the Chilean DJ’s. After choosing not to play in the US for nearly half a decade, Ricardo Villalobos returned to NYC for a night. His return can be attributed to his close relationship with Stephen Charles, who founded Time Warp. Ricardo swayed across the stage as he unveiled his unique record collection. While his set was too obscure for some, others loved the strange unpredictable flavour he brought to Time Warp.”
– Karan Parikh, Festival Sherpa (11/25/15)

About TIME WARP:
Founded in the Rhineland cities of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim in 1994, Time Warp was immediately hailed as one of Europe’s flagship techno events in the midst of Germany’s post-wall rise to become the genre’s surrogate mecca. The ensuing 20 years have seen the indoor festival become a global force, expanding to Prague, Vienna, Milan, Holland, Argentina and New York, while maintaining its base in Mannheim’s 20,000 capacity Maimarkthalle venue. Since its conception Time Warp has hosted the likes of Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, John Digweed, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Ricardo Villalobos, and has seen its increasingly outlandish production develop into some of the best in the world, establishing a framework for what a large scale indoor event should be.
