ALANIS MORISSETTE’S
“JAGGED LITTLE PILL ACOUSTIC”
SETS RECORD SINGLE-WEEK CD SALES AT STARBUCKS
ALANIS MORISSETTE’s new JAGGED LITTLE PILL ACOUSTIC studio album has debuted with the biggest single-week CD sales in Starbucks history. Released Monday, June 13, 2005–marking the ten-year anniversary date of the original release of her landmark, 30 million-selling JAGGED LITTLE PILL–the album has sold more than 61,000 copies in its first seven days of exclusive availability at Starbucks. In a unique agreement between Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) Hear Music and Maverick Records, the album is being sold exclusively in Starbucks Company-operated stores in the United States and Canada and via www.starbucks.com/hearmusic throughout the six weeks of the “JAGGED LITTLE PILL ACOUSTIC TOUR.” After the critically acclaimed 27-date “Live @ VH1.Com Presents” jaunt concludes, the album will also be sold at traditional retail outlets, starting July 26.
“Starbucks Hear Music is thrilled to be collaborating with Alanis Morissette and Maverick Records on the innovative distribution and marketing of this special record,” said Ken Lombard, president, Starbucks Entertainment. “We are pleased but not surprised by the unprecedented response of our customers to the opportunity to purchase Alanis’ new album exclusively at Starbucks. We believe that the first week sales performance of Jagged Little Pill Acoustic is a compelling example of the continued impact Starbucks is having on the music industry.
JAGGED LITTLE PILL ACOUSTIC is the new acoustic studio version of the seven-time GRAMMY® Award winner’s groundbreaking 1995 release. For the new disc, she and co-creator Glen Ballard utilized an eclectic group of acoustic instruments–from perapaloshka to marzophone, cajon to maraca, pump organ to pianoforte–and reworked many of the original songs’ harmonies and melodies.
The “JAGGED LITTLE PILL ACOUSTIC TOUR” offers fans the opportunity to hear Alanis perform music from JAGGED LITTLE PILL ACOUSTIC as well as other highlights from ALANIS’ career, as chosen by fans on her website. The tour launched June 7 in Toronto and is visiting distinguished venues throughout North America before wrapping July 17 in Costa Mesa, CA.
